New Laptop: Suggestions!
My current laptop is too damn old and can not perform as needed. Fuck it, I'm getting a new one! I need some suggestions on what you guys think about various laptops. I was looking at a couple Dell laptops and liked what I saw, but am always open to new options.
I like fairly decent sized screens, space isn't really a problem. Doesn't really need DVD, but CD-RW is a must. A fair bit of RAM. My 128 just doesn't cut it. POS. Internal ethernet would be nice, but a modem is essential. Etc, etc, etc. So if you know any good deals, let me know. I'm in need! |
Sly, I just picked up my first laptop a month ago....
Toshiba Satellite 1900. It was a bit pricey, but it kicks major butt. |
My last one was $5k, there's no way in hell I'm spending that again. What are the specs on your laptop, Chris?

I have a Dell Latitude X200 with most options, and more RAM. Its sweet. I got the 8 hour battery and use it with the wireless card built-in.
Highly recommend it. |
I'm on my second Dell lap .. This one is a lot lighter.. and it has dual batteries - wireless modem .. 512 RAM .. I can swap a battery pack for the cd drive or the floppy drive.
It's a Dell Inspiron 4100 . .I've had it about 5 or 6 months now I think. Ran me around $3500. Get a Dell |
I think I will go with Dell. Thanks for the input guys and gals. Time to break out the good ol' credit card. :winkwink:

I've got a Dell I8200. I love it, its fast as crap and the screen is beautiful. The only complaint I have is that with 2 batteries in it it'll only last about 4 hours fully charged. Apparently the Geforce4 GO which is in it is a power hog.
I think it's worth it, however, as (like previously mentioned) it can play all the newest games perfectly. Oh, and it does get pretty hot so if you want a laptop that you can keep on your lap for hours on end you might want to look at a different model. Plus it weighs almost 10 lbs with both batteries in. |
definitely pickup one of those $15 or $20 lap desks. they're comfortable if you're going to be using the laptop in your lap for awhile.

If you want thin, get a Think Pad or Vaio.
Also if you plan on using it as a desktop (extended hours of use) get one that has a fan that blows out of the base, or it's gona get really hot after a few hours. |

You can see the vents clearly in that one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=2029904251 In the back middle of this one you can sort of see the fan. You could just get a cooling pad however, but it's better if there are vents or a fan that blows out. |
Sony Vaio... Top of the notch! Needless to say more!

Hi,
We have a Sony, a Toshiba, a Dell, and a couple of the new Apple Powerbooks. Without a doubt the Apple powerbooks are far better than the rest. Mitch |
If you are looking for a desk top replacement Dell Inspiron or Latitude is the way to go. Desktops suck big time ;)
