Nintendo Must Be Smoking Crack

Just watched a trailer for the new Wii console they are bringing out. I know this isn't news to anyone, but do they seriously think gamers and gonna want to jump and move around like assholes playing every game ? :1orglaugh

The clip i watched is on this page. It loads when the page is opened...

Someone tell them people are getting lazier every year... :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

MaddCaz 07-17-2006 04:48 PM

yea Nin is determined to fail...

Scott McD 07-17-2006 04:50 PM

And one viewing the first batch of games due out on that page, it looks like the same old shit, aimed at 5-7 year olds.

Rayman: Raving Rabbids

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz

Super Mario Galaxy

WarioWare: Smooth Moves

Cars: The Movie

No doubt, there will still be Mario tennis, soccer, golf, pinball, etc to follow ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Doctor Dre 07-17-2006 04:50 PM

They are creating the technologies for the next consoles... but they will pay the price. This one will probably fail, and every other compagny will just rip off their tech.

L0rdJuni0r 07-17-2006 04:52 PM

i rather play computer games...

slapass 07-17-2006 04:58 PM

look great. gets me off my ass, I am all for it.

MaddCaz 07-17-2006 04:59 PM

hold on I need to take a Wii

QuaWee 07-17-2006 05:00 PM

why does Nintentdo always want to fail. It's going to end up like Sega (only make games)

Cuz that's their market, which is exactly the market they want to be in.

You're all pretty much ill informed, and wrong

I'm in the games industry... have been for many years. I've been making games as an artist and have worked up to lead positions on some VERY big games. I've been in the thick of things. Going to trade shows, public shows, being onvolved with the making processes also gives you an insider view of the industry.

Nintendo is going to sell a fucking shit load of units.

Low price. Amazing, and innovative new way of playing a console. Almost every 3rd Party company on board (something they lacked last time round).

At this year's E3 (Electronics Entertainment Expo), the largest of all the main videogames industry trade events, the main word on people's mouths was Nintendo.

They announced the Nintendo DS to a lot of Skeptics, and look what happened? Its selling enough to break records.

Nintendo Wii, may have a stupid name. But it's going to blow videogaming out of its current state. Everyone take note.

Nintendo Wii has full motion sensoring. Full positional and rotational detection. It knows where it is in space. No other system has that. Sony announced tilt etc in their controller. But let me make people aware... GameBoy had that same technology years ago. This is different. Imagine playing a first person shooter with the movement controlled on the left hand, and the direction and shoot controlled on the right hand ... actually moving. Imagine cocking the gun back in your hands. Twisting the controller down so you can pistol whip the guy ahead... You don't need a button press... you just do it.

Imagine the possibilities, and open your minds.

If you think THEY're stupid, then YOU are stupid. This console is not targeted towards 18+ or you, they're for kids! WHY? Cuz there is no console out there for kids. So no competition, they have 100% of the market. This new console is eye candy for kids, and they will torture their parents to get one. GET IT NOW?:helpme

JD 07-17-2006 05:19 PM

i predict a total success in the 10-16 asian markets while a TOTAL failure in the US on all fronts...

I see what they are trying to do with it, but i just think it will be more off putting for many, rather than something that will convince them to go for that, rather than a PS3.

And yes i know it will sell by the shitload. But no matter what Nintendo brought out, it has the following who will buy anything they bring out anyway.

I can only really speak for UK sales, and it will be waaaay behind sales of PS3 & 360 here...

Well, of course theres gonna loads of games for older audience. Like Resident Evil 4 for gamecube. They're all saying it's gonna fail, you really wanna bet on it?:thumbsup :thumbsup

YOU DONT NEED TO CONVINCE THE KIDS! ITS THE OLDER AUDIENCE TO CONVINCE. 10 YEAR OLDS ARE ALREADY GONNA GET IT NO MATTER WHAT. You really think you have better marketing skills than a company making games and consoles for over 20 years. :upsidedow

You're sooo wrong. I am not doubting that Xbox sales may be higher than Wii sales overall ... but Sony have made a dire mistake... not only can I assure you that PS3 STILL isn't completed in the technical design stakes (ie: hardware STILL isn't finalised), but the predicted price is over £400. No way on God's green earth are Sony going to sell enough. Wii is aiming at being anywhere from £150 - £200 MAX ... add that and an Xbox 360, and you've got the best of both worlds.

Man, PS3 is going to fail. They've fucked that one up :D

I'll hold you to that comment :winkwink:

I'm waiting to see how the launch of PS3 goes, if it doesn't seem to live up to the hype, i'll happily go with the 360.

Tbh though, i haven't even been all that impressed with the 360 either so far, but i guess alot has still to come at least...

Twisted Dave 07-17-2006 05:35 PM

It's all about price ... Remember when 3DO came out ... it was the most incredible thing ever... high res... fast 3D etc... coming from the guy who founded EA, the large studio responsible for classics like Toejam and Earl, Roadrash, John Madden Football, FIFA ... this is pre PlayStation... and what happened? They released at a crazy price. The UK public I can say for sure, will NOT accept that.

Twisted Dave 07-17-2006 05:37 PM

Anyways ... I gotta shoot and watch some Buffy ... I'm slowly being introduced to US TV series... next up after Buffy ... CSI. Then 24... then... erm... whatever ... :) Night!

Scott McD 07-17-2006 05:37 PM

I paid over £350 for a Sega Mega CD :disgust

Elli 07-17-2006 05:38 PM

I think the motion sensor options are amazing. I just choose to wait until PS2 implements them. Think of the success of Dance Dance Revolution, etc. It's a way to get kids to move at least a bit instead of being planted on the couch. And they now have "video games" that are full excercise videos that show you how to do the moves using the eye technology.

Ok ... for a start ... PS2 isn't a company ... it's an old console that wont get any more innovations ... and second ... Sony, who are making the PS3, are NEVER going to add motion sensors to PS3. Because they've added tilt and acceleration sensors... which are, as I say, old Gameboy Advance technologies from years ago :)

So no... Sony wont do it. If you want it... you have to get Nintendo. Simple.

Zarathustra 07-17-2006 06:43 PM

That controller is the most innovative thing to come out of the video game market in years.

Think Indiana Jones and the Whip.

faegan 07-17-2006 06:46 PM

Parents worried about their childrens lack of excersize will be eating this thing up! This was a brilliant move for Nintendo. I should buy some of thier stock 'cause it's going to go through the roof I bet.

xclusive 07-17-2006 06:47 PM

Not to mention that a lot of studios are having major problems developing for the PS3. It's just to expensive for small and medium sized companies and that means less ps3 games.

notabook 07-17-2006 06:50 PM

Twisted, since you have experience in the gaming industry, can you give me a lowball estimate of what a graphical RPG would cost to make iyo? I?m not talking Oblivion quality as that?s an infinite amount more than I could ever hope to raise capitol for, but something nice that would at least get a passing grade? Would be for PC development only.

madawgz 07-17-2006 06:53 PM

cmon, its going to be fun, im gonna buy one :)

Yngwie 07-17-2006 07:15 PM

well, the games that will come out on the Wii may not be a graphically intense as the ps3 or the xbox360, but with the Wii controller the games will be much more fun to play. Of course, the lazy ones will be all pissed since they actually have to move but hey, at least you won't get fatter.

Yngwie 07-17-2006 07:17 PM

and seeing as all these game companies are interested in the Wii that should make for many games.

Yngwie 07-17-2006 07:20 PM

of course, to a lot of people it's all about the power under the hood.. Funny though, people say the Game Cube was weak yet look at RE4 on the game cube.. It was flawless.

scottybuzz 07-17-2006 07:25 PM

it looks crazy - but the price is absolutley amazing compared to the others. i was on another forum and the moment someone saw the price everyone was "oh i might aswell get one now"

A) twice as much as an XBOX or PS2 yet about the same graphics. Hmmm yeah "low" price" why not just by an XBOX or PS2 and use the rest of the moeny for games?

B) Most people don't want to jump around like an idiot or play with a control that looks like a TV remote. How many other gadget controllers have come out only to fail? How come most people don't play driving games with a steering wheel controller? How come most people don't play shooting game with a gun controller?

Yes using 5 year old technology is going to blow video games out of their current state.

Yawn. Who cares. I like a normal controller. Hell I can't even stand that rumble shit.

You know when Intellivsion came out it supposedly had a fancy and superior controller and most people HATED it. They favored the simple basic design of the Atari 2600 controller.

bawdy 07-17-2006 07:47 PM

looks great... tennis, golf, fishing etc would be fun... much better than the current crop of controller

dunefield 07-17-2006 07:52 PM

errrr... whats so stupid about the wii?

nintendo are changing how to play games... people used to say analog sticks were stupid now every console uses them as controls...

personally i'd rather play a game which has awesome gameplay than an eyecandy which has absolutely no gameplay whatsoever...

do you read books because it has more pages? or buy a book because it has a better looking cover than another one?

another good example is the ds... the psp is more powerful has better graphics and you can play movies yet it's getting outsold majorly... why? cause the ds brings new things to playing games...

I'm curious. Did they call it the Wii because the Nintendo Don't Buy This was too long to fit on the side of the case, or what?

As long as it works better than the power glove did, it looks pretty cool to me. I cannot tell from the video, but it doesn't look like much improvement graphically.

They've actually been making games for over 100 years. They were originally a playing card company :winkwink:

Wii is going to be a blast. I've got mine preordered and can't wait to actually get physical with some of these games.

Big deal in 1982 I paid $200 for a ColecoVison and $25 for games. Do the inflation math on that. In fact the Intellivison is the most expesnive game system ever costing what would be $800 in today's money. The $600 PS3 would cost around $225 in 1980 about $25 more than an Atari 2600. It's called perspective.

Think about it on a kids point of view, kids get to interact and feel like there in the game, that tennis game looked quite good to me :)

MattOT 07-18-2006 01:32 AM

they must be smoking somthing, I wonder how well they work???

fuzebox 07-18-2006 01:32 AM

This motion sensor stuff is ridiculous... If I wanted to go through the motions of playing tennis or golf in my living room I'd go out and do it in real life. Video games are for vegging out on the couch and not moving.

Honestly if my FPS required me to wave my arms around to kill anything I wouldn't play it. The current controller has been around in various shapes for 30 years, and any weird new designs have failed, maybe that's for a reason?
