Opinion: Google places no weight over a .com comparatively to .net's and .org's.

Agree or disagree?

I'm personally going to agree. I have a few .net's and .org's (mainstream) im going to purchase in a bit which are keyword domains, I just want to be sure I'm not missing anything when I go to SEO these things.

I know really the only benefit keyword domains bring is that webmasters are more inclined to list the domain text as the anchor text (and usually a higher CTR)... but I'm just wondering if there really is any advantage to .com keywords in terms of ease of ranking.

I don't think their method of rank matters with .com or .net

a good % have hyphens and totally irrelevent so why would the extension matter at all.

Deputy Chief Command 07-21-2006 09:52 PM

extension DOES matter!!!

Big_Red 07-21-2006 09:53 PM

There is no money is SEO.

Doctor Dre 07-21-2006 09:54 PM

I think it does matter... .com have more chances to be established sites instead of se spamming.

vvq 07-21-2006 11:10 PM

you would think the more expensive extensions would have some weight placed on them over the cheaper ones. spammers aren't using the expensive tlds for spamming.

i really don't think it matters. as it shouldn't.

I'm talking about .Net's and .Org's only.

Totally hypothetical galleryseek, but if Google did have weighting, would there be a general leaning towards what may be regarded as authoratative sources?

In that case, maybe .orgs would, on average, be more of authoratative source?

bdld 07-22-2006 12:34 AM

.net .org or .com, makes no difference to google.

good point.

madawgz 07-22-2006 12:52 AM

i think they actually do rank .com's over .net's

i guess it all comes down to the backlinks

I do believe you've just contradicted yourself.

woj 07-22-2006 01:41 AM

the difference if any is minimal...

Kimo 07-22-2006 03:03 AM

i dont think there is a differnce, but who knows

free4porn 07-22-2006 08:22 AM

i have .orgs and they rank well.

minusonebit 07-22-2006 12:51 PM

I dont think it matters much.

wedouglas 07-22-2006 02:26 PM

The reason you see more com net and org is because they are the most common. EBay could rank ebay.name high if it wanted, but everyone is already very fimiliar with the com.

UCH 07-22-2006 02:28 PM

its a fact. Agree

dynastoned 07-22-2006 02:33 PM

ive had .nets at #1 for keywords and i have had .coms at #1 for keywords. i honestly haven't seen a difference.. but it all depends on what your using your domain for of course. if your trying to make a brandable site for people to remember easily it would be best to go with a .com obviously...

spacedog 07-22-2006 02:36 PM

there is no weight whatsoever placed on the extension & that is a fact.

I have a .info in the #1 spot I also have .org & .net ranked higher than their .com namesakes, & I even have .be in the top 5 spots
