My friends dad almost got his leg amputated. Over 7 years and he is still bruised quite badly from the bite.

My kid got nailed by a venomous caterpillar called an Io Moth recently. Just brushed up against it while it was clinging on a leaf branch. Stung him like crazy and he was freaking out. I never even knew caterpillars could do that.

Check out all the stingers this fucker has. That's why it hurts so much. They lance you with a multitude of venom all at once.

Here in oregon we have the "Hobo Spider" they call them a "Hobo" because the spider caught a ride from Europe into the Port Of Seattle... the spider has branched out as far north as British Columbia, as far south as Yreka, California and as far east as Utah...

Same principle as the Brown Recluse, it rots the tissue... they are ALL OVER here... I have about 200 in my yard right now under rocks, in between shit, yadda yadda.... 50/50 chance it will be a venemous bite if you're hit..

I've seen em as big as about 1 1/2 inches...

Ugly little critters.. cats love to play with them...

My regular FT job is in healthcare.

Please, if any of you get bitten by a Recluse spider, go to your doctor IMMEDIATELY!

The infection starts off in the tissue but as it progresses, it can break into the bloodstream and go systemic.

Regular antibiotics usually aren't effective either. You have to go into the hospital and have IV antibiotics (vantomycin, gentomycin).

If you get a bug bite and aren't sure what bit you, watch the area closely. If you start spiking a temperature or the tissue around the bite becomes painful, go to the doctor. It might not be a Recluse but several insects will bite you and then lay eggs in the bite area. They can do that quickly. You would think they wouldn't have time, but that's how fast it can happen.

Nasty stuff!

Every summer we see at least a half dozen people have to have large chunks of flesh removed or even fingers, toes, limbs amputated.

:Oh crap

no, he died from a heart attack I believe. The spider bite probably didn't have anything to do with his death.

We have saddle back caterpillars here in Florida and they give a pretty nasty sting. They are only about an inch long, bright green with a marking on their back that looks like a saddle. They hang on the underside of leaves. I'd be out mowing grass on a riding mower without a shirt on and drive under a low hanging branch and one would rub all the way down my back. Stings for about a half hour. Burns like a man-o-war sting but not as bad as a stingray barb. I know because I've got hit by all three. I think I need to stay inside.:Oh crap
