Do you think HUMAN HIBERNATION is possible?
Do you think artificial human hibernation is ( will be ) possible?
f.e. freezing a human being with an incurable disease and "waking him up" in 20 years when a cure is discovered ? |
anything is possible you just have to find out how to do it
I doubt we'll see that in our lifetime, or for many lifetimes to come.
Seems to me by the time they perfect that technology, they'd be pretty damn good at curing just about anything that's worth freezing you over. That all being said, I can think of several people that should be used to test the technology. |
The wood frog...
fascinating creature Wood Frog is the common name given to Rana sylvatica. They are the only frogs found north of the Arctic Circle. Wood Frogs have the special ability to freeze their bodies. In the winter, as much as 35-45% of the frog's body may freeze, and turn to ice. Ice crystals form beneath the skin and become interspersed among the body's skeletal muscles. During the freeze the frog's breathing, blood flow, and heart beat cease. Freezing is made possible by specialized proteins, glucose and perhaps accumulation of urea, which prevent intracellular freezing and dehydration. Wood Frogs tend to stay in the same area. They generally occupy an area of about 1000 square feet (100 mhahaha178;). |

I'd love to be frozen and re-live in the future....
didnt walt disney get frozen
There actually was a boston legal episode about it.
the guy was dying of a disease and only had 6 months left to live. in todays laws, freezing someone, stopping their heartbeat and bloodflow = Death. no court would let you "kill yourself". maybe in 20-30 years that will change! |

the world would change a lot in f.e 20 years youi would be probably totally allienated :2 cents: |
i don't think it is possuible and there is no need for it, because we have cloning......
I think it will be possible.
I tend to worry about things like this. Eventually, are we all going to live forever? If so, we're definetly going to have to colonize Mars. I say we start by sending all the religious fanatics. Let them fight it out up there while the rest of us live in relative peace. |
There have been a lot of studies about it. And for now, they can not do it, because the body freezes at different temps. The harst being the last to freeze, as it is al muscle, and much more dense. So it gets damaged by the prolonged cold.

I'm sorry I don't follow, what does one have to do with the other? If I'm dying and they clone me, fine, but how does that help me? I still die. |
Howard Hughes spent alot of money trying to make cryogenics work.
He wanted to be frozen until they found a way to make him live forever or something crazy like that. |
yeah just go to enough parties and you'll see it's possible for humans to go into hybernation mode LOL
I dont know, but the 5 year old meat I defreezed yesterday tasted like shit.
any other opinions? :)
at one point...maybe
Mr. Romance |
Unless they find a better or different way to freeze bodies it won't be possible. Can it one day? Yes. Right now when frozen cell walls tend to rupture and ruptured cell walls in your head is probably not a good thing.
anything is possible.
It could happen
I think we can see stasis in our lifetime. Think about the rate of tech advancement in just the past 10 years. Tech advancement seems to be multiplying it's rate all the time. I think it's just getting faster and faster.
I think it will be hard to attain but will make it ...if we don't kill ourselves in atomic war sooner...

Then in a sort of bizarre way one would live for as long as one wanted. Actually a younger body to replace a old decrepted one, does sound pretty good. |
Captain America made it, I think it's also possible for us..
what would you do when you return to life? No friends, nowhere to live...

i hibernate about 12-14 hrs on saturdays
i think it would be cool to have a son in your twenties, then get frozen and when he's your age unfreeze yourself and go party with him
I doubt that will be possible in our lifetime... maybe one day when they figure out a lot more about our body then we know.
Real hibernation would probably require some SERIOUS biochemical interventions. I'm sure if the market is BIG ENOUGH people will try to make this breakthrough happen.
Who was the baseball player that his son froze his head? Recent, like in the past couple of years.
its just not possible..
