Israel pushed the PLO out of Lebanon in 1982: Hesbollah was the reaction to that. Even if they succeed in eradicating Hesbollah, you don't think that maybe, just maybe, given the history of the region, another group will appear to take its place?

Seriously I know alot of people like to talk about it like it is some kind of xbox game and they'll sling numbers at you all day, but let me just be honest with you for the moment. Hezbollah is honestly the most organised and lethal Aab force in the ME. Israel won't be able to wipe them out, in fact Israel won't even be able to damage their military infrastructure in any significant way. Israel already knows they can't achieve what they'd like to this time around, and they will resort to doing as much collectve damage across the entire country as possible, and as much damage to entire southern suburbs as possible through bombings and than ask for international help. In reality though they haven't and won't have any significant effect on Hezbollah's fighting capability.

I hope US webmasters appreciate the show cos its their tax dollars thats paying for it! :o)

you're insane. The IDF is the most highly trained army in the world - more so than the united states. They lack the sheer might of the US, but in terms of battle-hardened readiness, there is no army that comes close to the IDF.

Hezbollah will fight like a rabid dog, their fighters have nothing to lose - please dont confuse that death wish with actual military capability.

I've been to Southern Lebanon, in fact I have met some of their fighters and ex-fighters, although they don't openly parade them for the most part. A friend of mine (whose cousin was in fact the leader in the Amal division of Hezbollah before being kidnapped by Israel in 1994 [I am sure you can Google to work out who this is]) invited me over there and as usual they are quite friendly to tourists and visitors as they want and need tourist money (glad I am not there now though). The amount of support they have there though is unbelievable and from what I have read, and learnt they are well equipped, very highly motivated and quite well structured. I simply don't believe that Israel has a chance in hell of destroying them, it is not as if they stand around throwing rocks at tanks, and I think you'll see that in the coming months. For the record I have also been to Israel, and am not blinded by some grand Arab message, but I did gain an appreciation for Hezbollah's commitment and capability in my reading of them, and my stay over there.

I look at it like Iraq. Could the US stop the insurgency relatively quickly? Yes, if they were able to employ the methods that Saddam Hussein was able to, and than some. Will they stop the insurgency anytime soon? Nope. Same thing applies to Israel here. Unless they literally genocide whole villages they won't be able to seriously effect Hezbollah anytime soon.
