shopping again,.. blackberry vs PDA

I don't know much about these gizmo's.. never had one, but I'm looking to go out & get one? I probably don't need either one of these If I have a laptop, so what are they for if you have a laptop?

Oh yeah.. what's the difference between pda & blackberry? Seems same to me?

For me I like the PDA, I have the Samsung i700 powered by Verizon and it's great. I never had a Blackberry or heard anything about them so I don't know. But I do like the Widows based OS in the PDA so my computer and the PDA jive well together...:thumbsup

A guy I work with has a windows something... he is always having to reboot it and he talks about how stable it is when he runs a regcleaner.. I dont need another damn PC to babysit.

I tried out the new Treo 700p. I took it back in 2 days.
One thing I didnt like was that google maps doestn work on it... seems odd since palm stuff has been around forever.

I bought a blackberry 8700 and I love it. It pushes email from my websites address to the device, so I can see if I get a support issue or a signup when I am not home. Sure you can check mail with webmail on a treo or windows device - but I dont even have to think about it. It does it for me.

I also had problems getting IM stuff set up on the Treo, you can signon with the web versions, but that doestn keep you always connected and the latency was horrid - I had a friend send me IMs as a test and they never showed up. 45 minutes later I went home and signed in and I had those same messages as offline messages, so they never even saw that I was signed in on the treo.
Also I think it wanted to send IM's as SMS messages if you didnt use the web version.

There are clients for all the messengers on the blackberry and its no different then being connected on your desktop. I had a friend send me test messages and before he could say "ok its sent" the blackberry was making noise that I had a new message. Its all covered under the data plan so no SMS charges.

I love this thing. the connectivity and email is way better than anything else I looked at and I dont care that it doesnt have a camera.
