Are they much better than regular DVDs?

If you got an HDTV you should see a noticeable difference, nothing TOO major.

Much, although Blue-Ray currently supports 1080p resolution. Future HD DVD players will also support 1080p but the current Toshiba models do not.

Standard DVD 525 lines max
Current HD DVD 1080 lines interlaced max

But in order to get this resolution your HDTV must have a HDMI 1.1 or newer input. Even a DVI input that supports HDCP will be compatible with the players due to copyright bullshit.

my dvd player uprezs to hd so I dont see the need to change currently

Once they start making movies specifically for this format it will look amazing...it will look like your looking into a mirror..feel like your there on the set.
