CANADIANS - Buying stuff online in the USA

Just wondering if there is a way of getting around UPS "Brokerage C.O.D." fees?

Can UPS charge these? It's obviously not a tax, and it seems UPS screwed around with my package. I bought something for $243 US + shipping (~$40) and I am getting charged $71.62cdn for fucking brokerage fees. WTF

Check out how many times it went back and forth to lachine Quebec:

Ask the seller to put :

' Contact buyer for Brokerage '

When UPS contact you, say you will clear the parcel yourself .
Then go to UPS ( 32nd street in Lachine ) and do the paperwork ... takes about 30 minutes.

You have to pay GST & PST. Brokerage fee ( and the taxes tag on it ) are UPS fees, and can be circumvented if you do the work.

There is a way around this.. You know the little textarea box that says "Extra Shipping Instructions"... In that type something like "Don't put price/product info on the fucking box, I don't wanna be taxed by them government funded gang bangers called customs.. K thx, bye"

^^ also some expadited packaging ships without any kind of product pricing, so keep that in mind too

NEVER USE UPS , they are by far the worst major shipping company to exist. Their brokerage company charges more than any other company, they are thieves, I know people who refused packages because they charge stupid amounts.

KrisKross 07-31-2006 08:57 PM

You can only get around the fees by not accepting the package, as far as I know. Never let anyone ship you crap from the US by UPS. They're a total rip-off with their brokerage fees.

There's a service near the Lacolle border crossing that'll accept delivery for you and store the package for $2 a day or something like that. I used to use them when I lived in Montreal. I'll try and find you the link.

One word. Or, is it two? FedEx. UPS is terrible. Only use FedEx.

Trixxxia 07-31-2006 09:25 PM

I have never had those problems with FedEx.

Vitasoy 07-31-2006 09:26 PM

FedEx ground is just as bad now.. they used to charge $7 for brokerage now it's $45!!!!
I bought something for $299USD and they charged me almost 100 bucks on duties.

USPS is the best bet cause the partnership is with Canadapost. and they don't over charge on brokerage fees.

The brokerage fees aren't customs I think

What he said. Plus you can pickup the package at a local Canada post centre instead waiting at home all day for the UPS delivery guy to come....
