The F1 race was ball bouncingly fun

Anyone watched it? Man what a race, lots of drama and excitement and self-ownage, it had a bit of everything...

A wet track start with some rain caused alot of silly spins
Raikkonen who was leading smashed himself into Liuzzi and out came the safety car
Couple drivers changed to dry tyres midrace but owned themselves
Alonso could have the win but the right rear wheel screw came off after changing to dry tyres wich sent him flying to the tyrewall
After everyone had changed to dry tyres, Schumacher tried to hold on to his intermediate tyres and defend his position until the tyres turned into slicks followed by steering failure and retirement
Jenson Button took the win, his 1st ever win in over 100 GP's
And it was the 1st win for the Honda team in over 30 years
As if all this wasn't enough, there was alot of mid turn wheel-to-wheel close action with some touches and close shaves.

Wish all races were like this one, real edge of the seat stuff. :stoned

It was all fun until Kubica was DQ'd later after the race. :Oh crap

Kubica stripped of debut point's finish
06 August 2006

Robert Kubica has been disqualified from today's Hungary GP after his BMW Sauber was ruled to be 2kg under the minimum allowed weight in post-race scrutineering. Kubica had made a great debut to finish in the points in seventh place after a chaotic race.

An official statement said: "The stewards accept that the fact of the car being underweight was entirely inadvertent and give credit to BMW Sauber F1 Team for their assistance and cooperation in dealing with this matter.

"The reason for the car being underweight was explained as being attributable to excessive and unexpected tyre wear (and therefore weight loss) arising through continued use of wet weather tyres in comparison to the accustomed and anticipated rate of wear for dry tyres."

More importantly in the championship race this news means that Schumacher is classified as finishing eigth, earning him a crucial point and closing the championship gap to Alonso to 10 points. Moreover, Massa finishes seventh, winning 2 points for Ferrari in their chase of constructor championship leader Renault, who are now just 7 points ahead of the italian giants.

BMW Sauber have decided not to appeal against the disqualification.

Wow didn't know that, thanks for the heads up TD. What a race, and few hours later Schumacher gets a point, lucky bastard. Oh the endless drama...

It may look spectacular but I don't like it when it happens, I hate it when the pace car comes out, it kills the flow of the race. :(

Was an amazing race! The best so far this season, It was great from the moment qualifying started with both alonso and schumacher being penalised, and then alonso lapping schumacher in the race.

Was great to see jenson get his first win!!!

Seeing alonson spin off the track was the best moment ever, i dont think it was a wheel nut, he said in an interview he lost drive or something, althoguh im not sure if anything has been confirmed?!

"scrutineering" is my new favorite word.

Manowar 08-07-2006 08:06 AM

schumacher is an idiot

Ok. Idiot or not idiot, word through the grapevine is that if he wins the championship this year, he will retire from F1. Personally I would like him to win the title this year and bugger off, don't think I can stand another year's worth of Schumacher drama.

I'm thinking he'll retire either way. Word is that Raikkonen has already signed a 5-year $160M Euro contract with Ferrari starting in 2007.

That's some pretty heavy 'word'. Ferrari would only do that if Schumacher was really set on retiring, but I wager he'll only leave when he's at the top, like Mansell did.

Thats a lot less than hes on now, i think hes on something like £25mil a year ($50mil)

BMW offered michael schumacher £50mil a year for ten years giving hima total of £500mil!!

crockett 08-07-2006 01:42 PM

I recorded it and watched it today.. was a good race. Would Have liked to see MS win it, but not much you can do with a car that's steering breaks. It's nice to see Button finally get a win he did a good job this race.

Installer 08-07-2006 01:59 PM

That's what you get for opening a thread with "F1 race" in the title.
