I haven't seen any evidence nor complaints come through. But I did ask the affiliate in question if he knew what this could be about and it seems he has posted offering spacedog a way to contact him. So now spacedog can directly talk to the affiliate or contact us with a complaint. That is how this issue can be resolved dispite the trendiness of bashing AFF.

In all honesty Sagi, bashing AFF would not be so "trendy" if you guys took a little more proactive approach to cleaning up your trash.

I know that your program is huge and it would be nearly impossible to keep constant check, but the occasional "Here is a list of scammers that we canned" post would go a great long way toward gaining some harmony among the ranks here.

What you guys have to understand is that small and medium sized operators have a much larger comparative investment of time and resources in their respective programs than does AFF. When we see people ripping content and then partnering with AFF to profit from the work of others is makes people mad. Then you temper that with the sometime flippant attitude of AFF and you get a crucible of emotions. Your statement is a perfect example. You took the time to contact the affiliate and instructed him to get in touch with SpaceDog when what you should have done was simply check the content of both sites and then ban the affiliate if there were evidence of plagiarism. It is not Sagi's place or anyone else?s place to police AFF.

I hate to polarize the issue, but when it comes down to brass tacks AFF is either WITH the community or AGAINST the community. You guys have far more resources and power than most other programs. With greater power comes greater responsibility. Personally I would like to read a thread about how AFF did something WITHOUT there having to be a huge drama-fest first.

I don't know what site or ID Spacedog uses to promote us. The other affiliate has lots of sites and pages. It's just as easy to send an e-mail to us with links to both sites so we can look at it. I'm really not sure that Spacedog is asking us to do anything here. If so I would assume he would have contacted me directly or e-mailed our support before making the thread.

There is no more I can add to this.

I'm sorry but we have too many affiliates to check if they are stealing text from other affiliates. Spacedog might not even be an affiliate so do I have to check all my affiliates' sites vs every other page on the Internet? It's simply not realistic.

A little token action would be much better than what you (and the rest of the AFF pace) are doing in each of these threads.

Everyone with even basic intellect knows that it would be impossible to check every affiliate against every other affiliate on a quest for perfection and I don?t think that anyone has asked for that. However, you have to be profoundly delayed to harbor the idea that the community does not see where AFF's loyalties lie.

I entered into this topic with an objective perspective. I am not an AFF affiliate and I am not an AFF hater. Each message that I read from the AFF camp however, drives me closer to the popular opinion that AFF's concern extends only as far as the profit will allow.

I do not know if SpaceDog is an AFF affiliate and I have not seen the site(s) in question. What I do know is that if AFF stepped up and took some proactive (read: SUPPORTIVE) action that demonstrated some compassion for what the smaller programs owners go through it would be a huge public relations gesture. Standing feet-in-the-mud and refusing to move until pushed is not winning friends and attracting new affiliates.

I can see that what AFF does is ethically wrong. The larger webmaster community can see that it is deleterious to everyone's efforts and AFF knows on some level that their policy is wrong. What would it take to get AFF to take just one independent step toward eliminating a fraction of the scammers and thieves that profit from stolen work through the AFF program?

Let me make this suggestion, for an observation of a problem without a suggestion for change is simply bitching; Pledge 10 man-hours a week to proactively pursuing the content thieves and scammers and then post a list of those that were removed. I bet you a cool tasty beverage that such action will be met with accolades and praise.

Let's try something different. Tell me what you would do in my shoes? Keep in mind that I do know what the URLs in question are or have access to Google's spider.

In a perfect world I would be able to guess the URLs but if that was the case I'd probably be buying a lotto ticket right now instead.

and btw when complaints are made through proper channels we do take care of it.
