Hosting solution for a sponsor running FHG's??

What kind of hosting solution does it take to run FHG's and movie galleries? I'm guessing a couple of posts on a busy TGP with an MGP would eat 100mbps in a few seconds as I found when I got a 3mb movie hotlinked on crazyshit.com, hit 120mbps in under 20 seconds, 20 seconds later the server is nuked.

so how do medium sized sponsors handle 100's of affiliates posting their FHG's (I have no TGP background):helpme

FHG are notorious for killing servers - you need some experts who can customize your server configs and set them up right.

We have many satisfied FHG customers - I'll try to get in touch with you on ICQ

Have to add to that, I got a very cheap server there, so they had no clue it was gonna do alot of traffic, so it's only partially their fault.

If the package you ordered was to small I'm more than happy to move you to a Xeon server.

Hit me up on ICQ we will resolve this small issue.

typically a 99 dollar p4 is gonna fail under those conditions. would be nice if it wouldn't, but that kind of bandwidth is too much for a p4 with 512-1 gig of ram and an ata100 drive. let me know if there is anything i can do for you.

gleem 08-11-2006 11:11 AM

it was the $250 server, not the $99 one.

yes, I understand this server wasn't able to handle it, which is why I made that follow up post.

Like Caz and Milan mentioned, you really need some "beef" if you want to do it right the first time, which usually means shelling out a little more green. A lot of people aren't prepared to do this the first time around and run into troubles once their servers get a little traffic, as you know.

We have several customers that have "networks" of FHG servers, load-balanced to handle several hundred mbits. You probably aren't ready for something like that quite yet, but a Dual Xeon with a fair amount of RAM and a good hard drive or two would be a great start and prove better overall performance.

Please feel free to email me at [email protected] or ICQ me at 147479144 and I'd be happy to tell you what Phat Servers can do for you. I have a special going on the Dual Xeon boxes right now that you'll want to take advantage of.

gleem 08-11-2006 11:53 AM

ok, I cleared everything up with OC3, it was just a miscommunication on my initial server order, and Milan the owner stepped up to the plate and made it all good. hats off to him!

Glad to see you guys worked it out:)

sandman! 08-11-2006 12:28 PM

you can push 100mbs on a celeron with 1 gig ram and one ide hd if all your doing is static content there is no reason for dual cpu's for static content unless your planning on getting a gigabit network connection for the box and doing over 200mbs on one server.

I have several servers with www.techiemedia.com and some of them do 60-100 megs all day everyday with no issues at all. These guys will set you up on the right server and tweak your stuff out until it is optimized and running sweet. Many of the big guys host with them and ther is a good reason for that. Techie Media is like a family to me and I wouldn't trust my business to anyone else but these guys. I would talk to them before you make another mistake.:2 cents: :2 cents:
