Does GFY's perception of you matter?
How important is a person's or company's public perception on this board and the others?
Was just walking with a friend and we had very different ideas on the subject- so please discuss. |
I consider ANY public showing of my company EXTREMELY important
|
very important - its where the masses are
|
Your public reputation is the only thing you have in this business that's worth anything.
|
depends on who you are and what you do
|
you can fool some of the people, you know the rest

I enjoy not having to pretend to be anything Im not - if I offend someone its usually because I dont like them and if I am nice its because I want to be - no politics. |
not in the fuckin least
alot of people here dont like me.. fuck em one of the best parts of being a traffic guy.. |
Depends on what you do.
|
Alot of people have made alot of money just because of their board persona.
I think it is D Money or KB that said it best. "In this industry perception is reality." On a personal note I do research very carefully all posts made by anybody who wants to work for us. If somebody acts like a jackass on the boards I don't want them working for my company. You can learn an awful lot reading people's posts. |
Lots of great replies... perhaps this should have been a poll. :)
|
i'm myself 100% of the time.
|
I have no idea what GFY's perception of me is, nor do I really care.
|
once GFY had a tremendous impact until surfers started joining in - remember again the biggest players in this industry barely visit boards
|
GFY's? No. The only perception that is important is the ones my clients have when they get their wires every day.
|
i could care less, but for program owners i'd see how it could matter.
|
What a range of responses... our discussion last night about this was equally polar.
|
it matters to a point
|
Fuck no. I am who I am.
I found myself long ago, and I like myself. If you like me, great, if not, you can go fuck yourself. :liebe028: |
It doesn't bother me but I'm not running a paysite or webmaster program. I think I've got too few posts to even make an impact on the radar of the majority!
The threads on this board about companies can be worrying though. For instance the current threads on Nasty Dollars are putting me off their program... If i was a member of their company, perhaps I'd be bothered about what the GFY members are thinking and make improvements/fixes. |
after seeing the variance in responses i'll elaborate a little further and say, all i care is that people see that i have integrity, that i will bend over backwards to help people, and that i don't take shit from anyone. its like a big playground here. if you let people push you around, they will. thats pretty much all i care about. i push good products that convert for peoples traffic, thats what counts.

your reputation should have been made before you got here, not after.

If you want the long answer... heheh here it is. Seeing that this industry's meeting place is online, the very 'first impression' you'll have on anyone is on boards - chat - phone....way before you'll ever meet them in person (if you ever do). Now granted that not everyone is your potential client/affiliate/boss ... leaving a good impression or at least, not a bad one, will be beneficial to you - moreso if your livelihood depends on/or will depend on it in the future since someone may actually know someone for you to meet. I'm like shap, I read a lot of what is said and see how interesting people get when in the line of fire or how they'll come out both barrels blazing and shooting from the hip - it says a lot about the person. 'Board persona' or not, if you can't control yourself when you have the time to reflect before pressing 'send' then who knows what will shoot out of your mouth in a face-to-face meeting or how you can jeopardize a deal if you feel in the least bit attacked or are unprepared. In my opinion, if your market isn't on the boards and your livelihood doesn't depend on the mass perception of you, then it shouldn't matter to you. It does to me - and this goes for the board only. |

As for the statement that the biggest players barely visit boards I would have to disagree. I think that many of the biggest players do not POST on the boards but that they all have a regular habit of keeping up to date on what the pulse of the industry is and that does include visiting particular boards to keep up with new programs and services available. To continue to grow their businesses site owners and operators must rely on as many reputable sources as they have time to reference. Staying ahead of the curve is the name of the game in this industry. Just my :2 cents: worth. :) _ |
i only worry about what the chicks think....

interesting question. all the clients that I've pulled from gfy are not 'posters' . . like joe from ama once said . . . the guys that are buying are not posting in the threads . . lots of $$ at gfy just quiet about it . . . I guess my work speaks for it's self . . so do I care if somebody doesn't think I'm cool because I don't go to the 'gfy high school dance'? . . not really . . do I care if I have problems I don't address? you bet . . part of my reputation as a shooter beside the quality is my ability to resolve issues openly, honestly and fairly in an expedient manor . . because as rockhard said: your companies public image is everything . . so in that way, yes, I care immensely |
depends what you do, if you run an affiliate program obviously your gfy reputation will matter more than if you do your own thing, like run free sites for a living...

good point, my reputation is what got me to gfy . . |

Personally - don't matter from my side - I was in adult long before GFY was born and will still be in the adult biz long after GFY has died. On the subject of representating a company or sponsor - there are numerous good reps on this board, - but also several extremely bad corp/program "faces" who would be unemployable in that area in any real-life business. |
Always 2 sides to every story, and what makes one person hate you or think you are an asshole makes another one love you for being strong willed and standing your ground.
I think it matters to the point of honesty and whether or not you stand by your deals or if you have a rep for fucking people over and not giving what you say you will. other than that the personality part is a two edged sword people love you or hate you or they dont even know you.... some use it to get known and others prefer to be silent and unknown. I think there is no set way for all people to follow. nothing like a face to face meeting to really get to meet the person you may or may not do a deal with . the kindergarden " I will ruin you in this biz" or " do you know who I am " bullshit is just that BULLSHIT and NO real businessmen care about who likes whom or who doesnt like whom as long as the rep is not one of a thief or a scam operator then I think it does not mean anything important. Remember the competitors would love to make everyone hate you in any industry and using a board as a tool to do so is just one of the ways people do it here . Many many lies misinformation, fake nics used to stir a rumor, or to make it seem believable and add multiple people saying it ( even if they are really the same person with 5 different nicks ) are used all the time here and in fact it is how GFY was created so long ago was AMP, Boneprone and others all had multiple nicks and would argue or support each other and slam programs or endorse them as to how they saw fit sometimes with no actual basis in fact but others followed along and did the same thing and just did it to misinform people so they would not be able to compete with them on a business level . The fact is NIO business is gonna have a board that will give you all the answears and share all the secrets to the gold, so you will always have opinions and some of them are done in the interest of a persons wallet rather than the truth. I think real businessmen understand this point and take all the politics on a board with a grain of salt for the most part. I think they look for their own little subtletys to decide what they think of a person on for the most part . |
Simply put no

yep, I think it's quite important if you have a good reputation
but also being popular and cool and perceived success seem important on GFY |
This is actually a pretty funny thread considering what I have seen posted on this board before. Its seems from peoples past posts that its expected to act a fool on boards because it never matters.
Personally, I was doing this before gfy and will be doing it after, its not that important what people on any msg board thinks of me, just as when I see someone post something about someone else, I take it with a grain of salt because I dont know either nor the real situation. On the other hand, the people I see on here who just go around trying to attack others because they think they are something and have some need to have to impress people are people I would never do any business with. |
