I pay $20 for all that and more. Can go to any gym in the world.

It's all a game, they're going to get you to pay as much as they can. I know people paying 35 cents a month for gym memberships. They just go unnoticed somehow.

DaddyHalbucks 08-17-2006 08:55 AM

I pay $50 a month for my club. It's pretty nice, but nothing too fancy.

OMG Jim 08-17-2006 09:01 AM

$30 a month should get you a nice membership with all the extras.

When they are trying to sell you just say "NO" at least three times and the price should drop. Also if you pay for a full year all at once you should get at least 50% off the total price. If they don't offer you at least 50% off then it's not a deal.

Just signed up for $15 per month deal with Planet Fitness. That's about as cheap as I have seen. They have many locations, check them out.

Phoenix 08-17-2006 09:03 AM

yeah im going to pay for the full year..so they are waiving the registration fee of 249...but i have to pay for a 100 dollar fitness evaluation..lol

eh it is all worth it if i use it.

is it tax deductible? hmm

cant be getting called fat in my industry pics..lol

Vanilla DeVille 08-17-2006 09:07 AM

I pay 22 bucks a month at 24 hour fitness... and after one more year, it drops to 18 bucks a month.

galleryseek 08-17-2006 09:10 AM

do you live in 818? thats where i wanna find something.

i used to have a free ballys membership on the family lifetime deal. but i lost the card somewhere and i prefer those types of gyms where theres like smoothie bars and stuff in em. bathrooms with good showers and clean executive lockers.

if there are any of those in the valley i am game.

Antonio 08-17-2006 09:18 AM

I pay around $30 a month for the best gym in the city, but that's in Africa so I guess in doesn't really help you much ;)

I pay $24 for one that has everything. Something I found interesting when I bought my membership was that they were willing to negotiate. When I first looked at their fee's I laughed, there was no way I was going to pay $79. Then the guy countered and said he was going to hook me up and dropped it to like $49. I stuck to my guns and got him all the way down, I had to sign a 1 year comitment but at the savings I was getting I didnt care.

I saw on the local news a while ago about gyms having no set price and the sales guys working on commsion. I've met a few people at the gym and we all have different monthly fee's for the same amount of access. Treat it like a sales call and negotiate the best possible deal.

TondaB 08-17-2006 09:42 AM

I have a 24 hour fitness pass. I negotiated and paid $450 for 3 years. After that it is only $30 per YEAR:)

My recommendation would be to pay a flat fee up front if possible. You can bargain more!

axelcat 08-17-2006 09:46 AM

30-40 bucks a month

Bryan G 08-17-2006 09:53 AM

$50/month

seeric 08-17-2006 10:36 AM

good info, i woulda got hosed for sure.

Phoenix 08-17-2006 10:38 AM

yeah im going to push for a discount harder
the registration fee is just to make you think you got a discount me thinks

Trixie 08-17-2006 10:41 AM

Probably depends on if you're joining a chain or not. We live in a fairly remote area and all three of the gyms in town are small indie-owned local outfits you can't really haggle with (unless maybe you're an asshole since it doesn't seem like anyone is getting rich operating them). The best one costs around $50 a month and even then it's not anything very fancy.

Wish we had a 24-hour fitness close by but then I'd probably feel guilty for not supporting one of the mom-and-pop gyms.

woj 08-17-2006 10:51 AM

I wouldn't pay more than $30/month, unless the place is REALLY nice...

WarChild 08-17-2006 10:54 AM

$55 a month in Costa Rica. And $120 a week to my personal trainer.

I'd higly recommend a personal trainer for at least the first few weeks or a month. You'd be surprised how much you can learn in term of proper movement and form, and how big a difference that makes.

OTerror 08-17-2006 10:55 AM

25 a month is fair

DutchTeenCash 08-17-2006 10:57 AM

$50 a month in holland

includes spa swimmingpool tennis free drinks fruit whatever - you can get 25 bucks gyms too but they have crappy stuff

I like the life fitness stuff they have at mine

dissipate 08-17-2006 11:05 AM

I get $17 a month at 24 Hour Fitness Sport. Gym/Pool/Basketball Courts/Jacuzzi/Steamroom/Classes

Libertine 08-17-2006 11:23 AM

$70 a month. Most members are young women though, and it has a mixed sauna, so it's worth it :glugglug

reynold 08-17-2006 07:58 PM

I once got a gift certificate worth $50 from my friends gym. I've also used it for almost two months. :)
