Microsoft Ends Support for Windows 98 and Windows ME
This is a little late but still......
"Important: End of Support for Windows 98 and Windows ME Effective July 11, 2006, support for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition and Windows ME (and their related components) will end. Updates for Windows 98 and Windows ME will be limited to those updates that currently appear on the Windows Update website. Microsoft will no longer create new updates for Windows 98 or Windows ME after this date. This notice reflects the policies of the Microsoft Support Lifecycle. For more information, please read the Support Lifecycle policy. To enhance the security of your computer and to continue receiving updates, we recommend upgrading to one of the currently supported versions of Windows. For more information, visit the Microsoft Windows website." I don't want to update to XP I like my ME just fine! This sucks. |
dude are you on crack? ME has got to be the worst OS MicroSoft ever made.. XP is 1000 times better than winME
|

First of all ME sucks ass. I don't know of anyone that had that thing that didn't have problems. Secondly is MS supposed to support something forever when resources are better spent elsewhere? Should windows still be supporting Windows 3.1 because 5 guys in the world still want to use it? Don't worry it's not like your Windows ME isn't going to stop working.
|
If you want off windows get Linux on the Ubuntu distro.
Real easy and very stable compared to Win. |
I don't think the words "Microsoft" and "support" go well together in the same sentence
|
I still run Windows 3.11 for Workgroups on one comp. That was back when MS made real operating systems. From Windows 95 on, it started going downhill.
|
Back in the day when I upgraded my old PC from ME to XP it was the best upgrade hardware or software that I ever made to it.
It acted like a whole different PC. Gone was the slowness, frequent locking up and blue screens. I had a similar experience with ME on my old laptop. I only remember 1 blue screen on the PC after upgrading to XP and that was a conflict caused when installing hardware. If ME were still the MS OS I probably would have been Linux on my desktop long ago, but as long as I am making webpages I will keep one computer running what the majority of surfers are. |
I have windows 3.1 on a 486 box and love it!
|
I guess end of support for win2k is less than 2 years away... :(
|
no offence but, in my experience, Windows ME is the worst Windows that was ever made
|
i loved my windows 98 computer :( oh well...
|
Microsoft offered support?

i got NT4 Server and Client install CDs here - anyone want them? :1orglaugh
98SE was ok, ME was unusable. i actually don't know anyone who used ME. 2K was the best imo cause it was stable and didn't have all that nerdy bullshit XP has. first thing i always do after an install of XP is switching to the Win2K GUI. |

update to 2000 then dumbass :) |

Agree totally on 98SE and W2K - stability over bullshit matters :thumbsup |
With a Pentium 300, S3 Video card, and Desqview/X, you can be just as cool as Linux Guys! :thumbsup
