How many webmasters are taking advantage of RSS Feeds?

And if so is it a minor or major part of your operation?

RobbieRye 08-18-2006 07:19 PM

I like RSS feeds, but I find that very few sponsors are doing them right.

I find it's best to compose my own feeds still. It would be nice if it was all automated and seamless, but then everyone would be doing well with them I guess.

I agree, we are doing something about it, and I might ask you if I can quote you. ;)

Ok who read this thread 25 times? Is GFY laggggging or something?

SteveLightspeed 08-18-2006 08:35 PM

I would love to implement RSS feeds into Lightspeedcash, but I'd like to hear first what webmasters REALLY want, not just try to copy what has already been done.

What's a good email to catch you at personally? We are about to launch something I'm sure you'd at least be interested in hearing about.

Juilan 08-18-2006 08:50 PM

I use them but my gut feeling is they don't sell better than banners.

I think a lot of people use them... "rely" upon them is probably not true, but rss can be good.

Most sponsors do a piss poor job of supplying affiliates with good rss.

Ok here is one for blogs. I dont know anything about tgp ones but this is what I would like to see from sponsors

Wordpress feeds so you can use feed wordpress or Chio Pirate software

Post title: Tawnee Stone (random keyword) ie pics, Gallery, Nude, Samples, Blog check (overture for what keywords to use)

Post Catagory: use them ie, Tawnee Stone, Teen, Free, Pics,

Post Body: Few paragraphs of keyword heavy text (if you want to get crazy use the http://nonsense.sourceforge.net/ software and make the text random) with a pic.

Option to choose the size of the pics width ie 200 pixels, 300 pixels 400 pixels, 600 pixels

Option to link the pic to the tour or a TGP gallery

Daily updated entries

Ability to filter the feed by niche

Other sponsors feel free to make these lol

Edit Softcore pics too please

We try to be fairly flexible. I agree that there needs to be a bit more dynamic content when it comes to actual posts so they aren't all exactly the same for every page/site, though..

However, we do allow affiliates to generate dynamic feeds based on categories and have multiple templates to choose from with different image sizes, number of images, etc.

I would love to see some feeds from lightspeed! So far I've only found about two sponsors who do the feeds to par.
MediumPimpin does them perfectly for blogs. Check out my blog here for examples.
TastyDollars also does them ok, could be better but it's good enough. See my blog above for examples.
What I'de really like to see is them updated more often with maybe a bit more in depth thought to the blog itself. Usually they blog like "blah blah here she is, watch her do this or that." I'de like to see maybe more background info about the model herself. Hmm, can't think of anything else at the moment. :2 cents:

You just mean the entries have a large hyperlinked heading?

That would also be a good thing to control.

I didn't really see anything different about those feeds than any other stock standard blog entry feeds other than the large labels, which is why I asked. Of course I read what you said.

Only one of my sites is using automated feeds. It's functional, but I'm far from happy with it.

Of the feeds I do use I'd like to see some changes. First and foremost, if a photo is included in the xml, make it clickable with my ref code. If I had the time to parse every feed this wouldn't be such a big deal -- but I don't at the moment.

If you provide feeds that update periodically, please don't have your feed fall silent for a week at a time and then feed in the entire week all at once.

Overall I would likely use RSS feeds on more sites, but at this point I haven't found a large enough variety that are mature enough to rely on.

I'm always interested in seeing new feeds, so once they're ready bring 'em on!

:thumbsup

Oh sorry heh. Well, most sponsors that I've came across got the whole concept wrong. Like they have the feeds for their fhg updates and then tell everyone that they offer blog feeds.

Not in the slightest.

I don't use RSS feeds because I am a sponsor(kinda sorta the same thing you doi kinda sorta guess)... we don't compete with our affiliates for traffic.

My comments were about many sponsor's failure to use RSS properly. Not a request for a webcams.com improvement.

There's tons using RSS feeds for content. Specially for mainstream.

hey man, do you miond dropping couple of links, I'm interested in just about any topic, so far got only one mainstream site running (started coupl of days ago) but I'll make them at leat 30-40 by the end of the year

I'm thinking about blogs - computers, politics, travel, just about anything

where should I start looking for GOOD feeds - like more than a title and a huge link to the source???

jayeff 08-19-2006 02:05 AM

First blogs and now RSS feeds are two areas where mainstream has left us in the dust. And if mainstream used hosted galleries, we would likely have looked stupid there too.

About 6 months ago I went looking for sponsors who had feeds which might work on a blog, a real blog not a TGP by another name: I found 30. I tried out 3 different WordPress aggregators and they all worked fine, but they could only read and display 9 of those 30 feeds. I had to drop 2 of those because every few days their code would be screwed up and break my site.

It's staggering that in an industry this size, so few RSS feeds are compatible with the most popular blogging software. And although those apparently worked, only 2 validated fully. The seven varied from high-quality but oversized pics taking up 3 screens and with hardly any text, to poor quality cam stills with the kind of BS sales pitch you find on a tour. A couple were pretty good and looked as if some thought went into them (not surprisingly maybe, they were also the ones which validated properly) and that was it...

TheSwed 08-19-2006 02:33 AM

KinkyDollar have the best feeds I found so far :thumbsup

and the one in my sig also have good blog feeds

I use them here http://porninusa.com and here http://sexpect.com

Steve, I really do have some ideas on this. Give me a call at the GTS office or hit me up on ICQ (124-249-781) and I'd love to talk to you about it.
