Should Pluto Remain a Planet?

This is the most important non-JTF thread you will ever contribute to. Some say yes, some say no. I say the people will decide what a fucking planet is, not some fucking scientists in a lab coat or with a big magnifying glass.

I think there are quite a few people on this planet I'd like to see relocated to Pluto, so my answer is yes.

:D

I suppose it's for someone else to decide than me.. apparently it doesn't qualify as a planet... but we've always been tought it's a planet.. tough call.

then again the finnish national vegetable, HK-sininen (sausage), would be classified as a pastry according to EU because of the high-flour content...and we still call it a sausage, and consider it a 'meat product'.

The people care! You can't just take away something that's been with us for 75 years, something we've cherished all this time. You just can't one day go "oh btw, remember that ninth planet? Yeah, fuck it and fuck you for getting attached to it". Pluto is the gem of our solar system... some people think of it as a little frozen dust ball on the outer edge, but the majority of people see it as a cultural icon, deep rooted in our society. PLUTO 4-EVER!

I say yes

Marie 08-24-2006 07:55 AM

If we keep calling Pluto a planet, doesn't that mean that we now have like 3 new planets in our solar system according to the last findings?

SomeCreep 08-24-2006 08:09 AM

I think every planet should have a disney character name. We can start by renaming earth to "Mickey mouse".

Reality decides what a planet is. It's not the mathematician that decides that 2+2 =4. He just recognizes it. If determine truth by mob rule, it won't be truth anymore.

I think that is exactly the problem. Having the stigma of a Disney character attached to it has tarnished the value of Pluto in many scientists eyes.

Take Uranus on the other hand, no...really, do it - this distant planet has long been the butt of jokes, but no scientists are trying to wipe it off the list of planets. In fact, scientists think Uranus is just fine.

I believe if Pluto was named, say, Urgina or even Urmama, we wouldn't be having this discussion at all.

In conclusion, I don'l like your micka-mouse idea...however, I would be in support of changing the spelling and pronunciation of our little blue planet to Erf.
