Thats it, I am done with Mozilla Firefox. Hello Opera once again

They simply can't fix their memory leak problems. Leave Firefox open for 24 hours with 30 tabs, and memory climbs to 700mb!! WTF. I think the issue is that the browser keeps history even for tabs you close.

Opera rocks btw, give the new version a try. No ads, banners, completely free.

I've never seen ads before using Firefox and I use it everyday?

Doctor Dre 08-24-2006 05:55 PM

I don't care if it uses 200 or 1 gig of ram ... I never use all my ram anyways.

Why do you need 30 tabs open at the same time?

And why would you leave your browser open if you arent using it?

CheneyRumsfeld 08-24-2006 06:00 PM

firefox
tools
options
history
from there you can set hold long FF keeps history.

Yes and yes

I usually have between 7 and 15 windows open at a time split between 2 monitors, don't use tabs yet though, but something I will have to get used to using evenually.

Vitasoy 08-24-2006 07:06 PM

Not real problems here. FF rocks.

Miguel T 08-24-2006 07:06 PM

That's the only moan I got with FF - exactly the same problem. Was hoping they would cure the mem leaks with 1.5, but na.

rodney25 08-24-2006 07:13 PM

I'm happy enough with my FF. :)

Na :winkwink: FF runs fine with over 100 tabs open :thumbsup The pain in the ass is the daily closing down to release mem leaking - but then it's fine for another 24 hours. (And mem leaks are still the same whether 2 tabs or 100 are open)

lmfao are you serious? maybe your system is just fucking gay... i have had firefox open for the last 2 weeks, haven't restarted it, or my computer, and usually have around 10 - 20 tabs open at once, also have a crash recovery extension incase it does crash, hasn't yet, which remembers what tabs are open and everything so i can start off where it crashed, and i STILL haven't gone over 100mb of memory used... check your shit, probably have something fucking up your system... don't blame firefox for your idiocy

I handle the issue with FF by using the Session Manager (crash recovery + more) plugin. Once a day or so I kill the process of the browser when the memory gets up to around 500k.

Instead of having to keep track of where I was it, I just restore the 'crashed' session and it opens back up all of my tabs etc.

SomeCreep 08-24-2006 07:57 PM

I believe in most countries, having 30 tabs open at once is against the law. Please refrain from using so many tabs simultaneously. Thank you.

firefox works fine for me

Wiggles 08-24-2006 08:44 PM

i have same issue but its much better then other browsers.

iwantchixx 08-24-2006 08:50 PM

that memory maanagement thing is pissing me off too lately. Every so often the browser freezes, I hit ctrl-alt-del and wat the memory climb.. it's frozen, doing nothing and it climbs from 75 up to nearly a gig in a minute

DateDoc 08-24-2006 08:52 PM

i have had like 90 tabs open at once without a problem but lately FF has had issues. the latest crashes often. I have been using IE7 more and more.

madawgz 08-24-2006 08:54 PM

seriously its a fucking serious memory hog :(
