Ear Candling... Anyone had this done????
I'm scheduled to go tomorrow to have my ears "candled"
I have heard good things about this, but never had the desire to go until now. Because of all of the swimming I've done this summer, my left ear seems to have water stuck in there and it hurts like a real bitch! I'm hoping the candling helps, if not I have a doctors appt scheduled for Monday... So has anyone had this done, what was it like? |
Yeah I did it once in the kitchen, feels cool, but its total bullshit.
|
there was a huge thread on this a year or 2 ago....
it was debunked |
i did that a while ago with my mom. it was more weird than anything. she said it worked, i say it didnt. each their own...
btw, you can buy the candles and do it at home, dont need to go anywhere for it. |
I have done it...works well.

"Consumers are advised to avoid this dangerous and ineffective treatment. You may report complaints and concerns about ear candles or any other medical device to Health Canada through the Therapeutic Product Programme's toll-free Hot-line at 1-800-267-9675."

"An independent clinical study of ear candle use conducted by Daniel R. Seely, MD of the Spokane ENT Clinic, Spokane,WA (Laryngoscope 1996;106:1226-9) identified 21 ear injuries resulting from ear candle use in a survey of 122 otolaryngologists. The study concluded that ear candles have no benefit in the management of cerumen problems and may, in fact, result in serious injury. Injuries such as burns of the pinna and external auditory canal, partial or complete occlusions of the ear canal with candle wax, and tympanic membrane perforation were identified in the epidemiological survey.
FDA became concerned about the safety issues with ear candles after receiving reports of patient injury caused by the ear candling procedure. Although there are proponents who argue in favor of the use of ear candles, FDA is unaware of any controlled studies or other scientific evidence that support the safety and effectiveness of these devices for any of the purported claims or intended uses as contained in the labeling." http://www.entlink.net/press/bulletin/Candles.cfm |
Yikes!!!

How about you just hand me the money and I tell you your ear is better? It will cost the same and Its a heck of a lot safer than some nutjob sticking a lit candle in your ear.
|
I do it once a month
you don't need to "go in" to have it done, it is a home remedy darling go to any natural foods store and pick up the candles for those saying it is bad for you, don't do it often....if you have the amount of troubles I have with my ears, it is almost necessary, I have double perferated ear drums from when I was younger, and I have so much wax in my ears that builds up that it FALLS out of my ear while I am sitting here My doc even said because of my ear troubles that candling was a good solution, but MAKE SURE you do it right, you can hurt yourself if you don't do it properly |
