If she hadn't spent the bulk of her six years in the spotlight no one would have cared near as much, press or otherwise. I am inclined to believe it had more to do with her life in the spotlight then it did her race.

They report on rarities example: Plane crashes not car crashes. If you said someone was killed in the Ghetto today. You think anyone would blink an Eye. No one is going to watch hours upon hours of so called "Breaking News"
The news isn't for the people ,its a show it needs viewers. So they all need a better "Tag Line" than the next channell.
