seeric 08-31-2006 07:44 AM

the computer thing and the nuclear thing are pretty interesting though. any of those natural disasters are possible at any time. just when? the thing is there is no preparation necessary for any of those disasters, just say good bye.

2477 08-31-2006 08:11 AM

let me go find some info on this. its gotta be out there on the web

Tom_PM 08-31-2006 09:00 AM

I only caught the global warming part, but I'm sure they saved it for last because it's the most compelling part.

Of course there will always be those who try to just kill the messenger, but thats life. Judging a book by it's cover is something schoolchildren already know not to do.

stickyfingerz 08-31-2006 09:17 AM

Alot of it was interesting, but some of it was just downright unlikely and made me giggle. lol Volcano stuff and alot of others are likely though. Global warming they went on about how hurricanes have increased blah blah. No they were worse back in the early 1900's and even in the 50's Add to the fact that we didnt even really have a hurricane season this year and you'll see they are full of shit, and the earth just has natural warming and cooling cycles.

Why are their tempeture readings up slightly compared to 100 years or so ago that we have records for?

1. Frequency and acuracy of record keeping.
2. Urban spread. Theres a billion or so miles of concrete and asphault we didnt have 100 years ago.
3. They are recording the tempetures around all that concrete, and not the fields and forests that used to be there. Simple as that.

Global warming is a silly scare tactic. How many remember how Greenpeace came to be? Anyone Anyone Bueller? Bueller?

Thats right to help spread the word and stop us from going into an impending iceage due to man using hairspray too much. lol

Ozone layer? What happened with that? Did it shrink? No the hole didnt increase in size since the 50's when they first discovered it. Only shifts and changes in shape. The actual size of it hasnt changed. Yet we heard shit about it every day for years and years. Doom of us all. Every scientist agreed according to the media. We all were going to die of skin cancer due to the shrinking of the ozone layer.. Blah blah blah blah. How bout soil errosion? What happened with that? I remember hearing about that everyday over and over. All our soil was going to run into the ocean. We'd have no soil to farm blah blah blah.

Deforrestation. All our oxygene was going to be gone due to us using up the trees. Blah blah blah. Feel free to let them lead you down the primrose path folks. Use a bit of logic. Ask your grandparents how hot it was when they were kids. Summers were hotter even when I was a kid back in the 70's.

Global warming is a farce. If we all die from global warming in 10 years well then Ill be wrong haha.

UniversalPass Pete 08-31-2006 09:19 AM

All that stuff is far to real! We unleashed that power on the world more than 60 years ago, and now we are paying for it.:(

seeric 08-31-2006 09:19 AM

Well you know, not very many things in life are black or white. Thats the problem with extremism.

It's either all true and we're gonna die!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!

It's all complete bullshit and there is no problem!!!!!! (cue the baghdad bob image! lol)

So in other words, do what you can about the problems that YOU see.

"Problems are best solved by those who see them." - I forget who said it

rip raster 08-31-2006 10:03 AM

we are all doomed

aimeesweet 08-31-2006 10:28 AM

I wouldnt say its all bullshit. Pollution is a bad thing no doubt. Are we going to all die in the next 20 years because of it? No very unlikely. Lot of paranoia over very few facts. The ice thats disappearing one place, is likely to show up somewhere else. The earths rotation is pretty precise, but think about it, is it not likely to wobble just a bit? Maybe just enough to move the equator line north or south a bit every couple centuries? Nah that makes too much sense. So the north warms a bit, the south pole is maybe a bit colder than. Regardless of what any scientist says there would be little we could do to stop the earth from going through a cycle. We are all just here for the ride.

xxxice 08-31-2006 10:35 AM

My friend watched it and wrote a long email about how good it was :)

2HousePlague 08-31-2006 10:40 AM

It was cool that this program covered both natural disasters and nuclear holocaust. Usually, those are dealt with separately in these sort of "Alarming Information" type documentaries. The combination into one really forces you to realize how monstroulsy stupid our species has been to develop one more form of possible doom for ourselves, when others already existed, and that, for doing so, have left no resources available to prepare for or prevent them.

Basically, we are little kids sitting in a room filled with explosives and gasoline, worried about who has matches and fire extinguishers... when all the while...

Yeah true, the axis is not exact, never has been. In fact there is evidence that the magnetic poles have even flipped before (the alignment of shocked quartz from old time volcanic eruptions was reverse), so who knows when they sky will fall, hehe.

hehe ya the best advice is live your life, love your family, and dont worry what you cant do anything about. :thumbsup

Of course Im building a bombshelter in my back yard, and am slowly filling up a 2000 gallon gas tank to power my generator, while buying a few thousand dollars worth of canned goods, and stockpilling automatic weapons... Im kidding lol

Though to be honest I wouldnt be against that hehe. :winkwink:
