Does the logo design really matter on th e success of a site?

I cant design and dont feel like waiting for a designer.

Is there anything wrong with just typing the word in Arial font, putting a little black border on it, adding a little drop shadow and calling it done?

I mean as long as people can read it clearly then its fine, right?

squishypimp 08-30-2006 09:24 PM

yeah it does

it depends on what you are marketing and how you are marketing it. many successful sites online look like a nightmare and haven't changed in 7-8 years. example: http://alsscan.com/

hes right....compare alsscan to the sponsor in my sig...my sig sponsor looks so much more inviting.

It hasn't made a difference with Spasmodium. Look at the piece o' shit I have for a masthead. That was originally just a placeholder (those photos were purchased in '97) and I just left it.

Then again, who knows? Maybe my sales would triple if I had a new one made...

:2 cents:

You can make something simple but catchy and original, make it stand out and it will be perfect.

Logos dont sell....sex does.

s2kcord 08-30-2006 10:50 PM

Just aslong as the site does not look like it was put together in 5 mins It will work now if you do to much design that is bad also.

Yes.

GFY has me neutered until 30 posts. :321GFY So instead of posting a link I'll tell you to google "adult design contest". Best way to go IMHO.

dRI-X 08-30-2006 11:06 PM

yes..the success of your site is base on what is your business and the people who are going to look for your information

Miss Megs 08-30-2006 11:17 PM

its ok for your logo to be simple, but you want it to be easily remembered by your viewers... that is the whole point of a logo.

my point was the opposite. that site has made more than you can in 100 lifetimes of sig whoring.
-------------

people tend to overemphasize these details. you are just starting a site... what do you think? its going to be the next GM or GE or Microsoft by late next week and it all really depends on the logo?

content and traffic is everything.. a logo is a tiny detail thats 100% irrelevant if you have a poorly laid out/poorly thought out site, shit content and no traffic.

don't overthink it. just start working.
