I have the most expensive Internet in the World - I pay arount $300 for my ADSL 1Mbit line which is also capped, not to mention the daily resets that will fuck up any program that requires constant connectivity, it's also shaped which means that any p2p download will trickle

fris 09-01-2006 05:33 AM

mine is 3mbps dsl.
had 1.5mbps in the past, and cable modem, and 256k dsl, and 56k dsl (early stages of my highspeed years)

Ace_luffy 09-01-2006 05:38 AM

another bump...

maybe internet is not so popular on that yr :)

Dirty F 09-01-2006 05:39 AM

Yngwie 09-01-2006 05:41 AM

I've paid $3350 Canadian since 1999 for cable internet.. 6mbps uncapped usage.

It was 5mbps and capped at 12gb/month from 1999 to 2004

HorseShit 09-01-2006 05:53 AM

i ended up paying 2900$ for a month of dial up once lol

GrouchyAdmin 09-01-2006 05:56 AM

Oh, Christ.

I remember when I first logged onto Compuserv with a 300 baud modem. A 300 baud simplex modem. This means you flipped a switch between send and receive.

No, I'm not THAT old.. I just didn't have money for good gear. I had a VIC-20 and got a VicModem in, uh... 1990ish. Took about 3 hours to find out they had all but entirely phased out support, and the comms software I loaded from tape ate itself. That ended up costing like $80. :(

When I lived in SFBA, I was spending almost $500/mo for internet. I had 218k SDSL with a /27, and a cablemodem. Then, of course, the cost of electricity.. hoboy.

I'm much better now. Really. Wanna toggle my simplex switch, baby?

Jensen 09-01-2006 06:01 AM

beeing away for a week with my laptop and cell as modem wasn't that cool... $3.50 per MB downloaded...

CaptainWolfy 09-01-2006 06:39 AM

I used to pay 750 euro per month in 98 for internet acces with 56k dial up modem. Today it's like 35 euro per month for adsl but I'm thinking to switch to vdsl in a while.

Jakke PNG 09-01-2006 07:12 AM

I had dial-up in 1995 or so
1997-1999 I had ISDN (128kbps?)
2000-now I've been on cable.
First 512kbps, then 1mbps, then 3mbps and now 6mbps. I haven't done anything to my cable contract, I pay the same as in 2000, they just send me messages that they've upgraded the 'high-end' connections to a new speed. It kicks ass.
Shame that uploads are capped at 512kbps. :(

madawgz 09-01-2006 07:15 AM

i thought you were going to say thats what you paid for a month :1orglaugh

cool1 09-01-2006 07:26 AM

Its around $4320 ($45 a month) for me since 1998 for the high speed access.
About $480 ($20 a month) for dail up I had for the 2 yrs prior to the high speed.
So total of $4800, not to bad at all I say.
Probably made 75 times that more or less.
A big "Thank You" to my ISP :thumbsup

Antonio 09-01-2006 07:41 AM

I also went form dial-up trough ISDN and now ADSL, first I got connected in 96 I think, spent the first night jerking off non-stop, so much porn for free ;)

although back then it was mostly CJ sites so in order to see like 10 pictures you had to fight at least 20 pop-ups

rowan 09-01-2006 07:48 AM

I was paying $AUD0.19 per inbound megabyte until around 2000-2001. Assuming a 1:5 inbound:outbound ratio that worked out to about $USD20-25 per gig sent out. When I first started in 1996 I was paying roughly double (imagine $USD45-50 per gig...)

At those rates you definitely wouldn't want to be hosting any large sites!

d00t 09-01-2006 07:50 AM

my neighbour (wifi) pays all 'my' internet bills ;) ;)

Vitasoy 09-01-2006 11:03 AM

I have to be up there too.
