how does it work? how do you get the paperwork across for say, defamation and stuff? what if hes just a posted on a board?

Same way you would if someone did it through a newspaper or any other publication.

Go with your lawyer with a copy of the publication, pay him for his service (read: take it up the ass) and let him do the work.

Get a court order to the place that has the defamation (like GFY). Of course, getting a court order requires you to file with a judge and showing damages were made...

As much as people like to threaten each other on the daily basis with lawsuits i think I only heard of one precedent of somebody succesfully sugin somebody over message board talking.

And I don't remember the exact case.

A poorly spelled email and CAPS LOCK seems to be the most common form.

It's happened a few times on Yahoo message boards regarding stocks and information on certain companies.
