Have you ever used a Metal Detector?
 

I live on the beach, and see people walking around with them all the time. However, I never see anyone reach down and pick anything up.... do they work?

Yeah my eldest son has one, he's always using it on the beach and he finds all sorts of stuff ...

those detectors are very expensive if you want to find something really old and valuable. About 5000.
I had one costing 300 and i couldn't find my ring diggen in 10 sm.
