Pornography & the Future

So often i sit at my desk & ponder....what will the world be like in 50 years. Will we still be sitting here? And if so, will the 90's be forever remembered as the pinnacle of our society/the computer age, the highest point ever acheived. Or will it be known as the age of porn, much like the 60's were known for its hippies/flower children as opposed to social revolution & civil rights.

What will be our place in history? Sick perverted bastards who degraded society, or free spirited minds that brought about the future of sexual expression & freedom from the chains that our fore-fathers brought us.

Will pornography serve as a learning tool for some?... Leading to a greater sexual responsibility & increased practices of safe sex?

What do you think?

small guys have no future in the buisness.. only the biggest guys will survive....
too many newbies
too much free porn
& too many cheaters
are killing the buisness

mjrools23 06-24-2002 09:16 AM

generally, if u ask anybody they will probably say porn is a sick thing that degrades society...so i guess we will be remembered like that...especially with all this child porn and r kelly crap and people getting fired from their jobs for looking at porn..

Relatively speaking, everyone in this business is a newbie. There isn't exactly a family line passing down the business yet. It's only been around for what 10 years now tops.

You cannot even begin to judge the future business wise, there are far too many variables.

I meant to explore the social aspects, not the business aspects btw.

people who are in it for the long run and actually live by these ethics will survive. i dont think newbies or cheaters will ever stop flowing in, but those who definitely give it their all will go a lot farther.

Every "problem" you site has been around while the industry grew and grew and grew. At what point do you think it'll turn the corner and start plummeting downward?

This just goes to show you that porn is very powerful and popular. They aren't getting fired necessarily because they look at porn, they're getting fired because they're using company resources for their personal pleasure. Hey, I look at porn all day and haven't been fired once... :winkwink:

People will eventually get over the "porn is bad" way of thinking. We listen to Rock and Roll don't we?

I think the most interesting thing at question is what happens when more countries are more widely known on the internet?

Right now it's for the most part just the US.

If 10 years from now 3 more countries are wired in a very big way, look at how many more customers this makes available.

no i live in nyc..go walk down the block and ask any random person how they feel about pornography..they will tell u exactly what i said... "its bad"...porn is perceived to be a bad thing to many people

Paul Markham 06-24-2002 10:52 AM

This sounds as if we invented porn, we did not.

I've seen the murals on the brothel wall at Pompei. The Victorians had it as soon as they invented the camera. I was in my first porn movie in 1968, shot my first porn set in 1978.

The Internet is just a new delivery method of a very old product. It's not as big as video porn and nowhere near the size of magazine porn. In terms of $$$ and as a business that is what gauges success and failure.

Too survive we have to realise, the viewer only see us as another delivery system of a product he's already interested in. And he probably knew what he wanted before he got online.

Or are we so egotistical to think we created porn, the viewer or changed his tastes?

And in the end do you really think most people care about us?

People say they think it's bad because they think that others think it's bad. Go look through the stack of magazines under their bed. Take a look through their video collection. Ask Ox Cash how their sales are doing.

It's just like doing drugs. Ask someone on the street if they do, they'll probably say no, but in reality they do. I have asked every one of my potential roommates if they do drugs. They each said no, but every one of my roommates has done drugs.

Don't believe everything people tell you...

mjrools23 06-24-2002 10:59 AM

truthfully, i dont care how people feel about porn, im not ashamed of what i do, i just care about my chedda

Porn has been around forever. And has always been shunned by the very people that crave it the most.

We haven't brought anything new to porn except the delivery of it. People will look back at porn on the net as the beginning of when they could get porn in the privacy of their home - without leaving home.

Just like when adult theaters came out, people didn't have to watch "stag" movies at some secret party or whatever. Then came along VCRs, and people could watch at home. The net just makes it simpler.

UnseenWorld 06-24-2002 11:15 AM

People are hypocrites. The same people who feel porn is bad visit porn sites and have extensive collections of "erotica." "Porn" is always the nasty stuff the other guy likes. "One man's porn is another man's erotica."

titmowse 06-24-2002 11:17 AM

i think porn on the net will prove to have helped demystify sex when history looks back on this time.

kmanrox 06-24-2002 11:30 AM

titmowse 06-24-2002 11:30 AM

"Well, fuck, that would be a shame, wouldn't it?"

i'm sure things will work out somehow :Graucho

Nothing stops porn... it's going to be bigger and bigger thing. There are huge markets waiting for beter connections... China, the whole Europe etc. Too bad... fast wires are late... I bet that wireless porn will be the THING! ...and even Chinese have mobile phones. Maybe within the next two years mobile phones are updated to the "next gen" and after that for the next and next - and the world will be ready to browse wirless porn - everywhere! People will be able to login their favourite bookmarks and stream porn from their phones right on flat screen hanging on their wall.

As a business - there will be changes - but survivers will be making cash also 2050.

digi 06-24-2002 01:40 PM

Porn will be accepted very soon. I cant think of any guy I met from high school and so forth that thought it was bad or ever jerked off to it. When we are 70 we'll still dig it and not be as conservative a most of our parents are.

Hmm... the problem is not our fore-fathers -- it's AIDS and STDs...

In the 60's you could have a different girlfriend each day of the week. Probably if it weren't for AIDS and such, we wouldn't be making as much money ;)

TheFLY 06-24-2002 01:50 PM

But I look to our younger generation -- we didn't have stuff on the radio like this "lick my uhhhhh just like that" every 15 minutes ;)

We may very well be viewed as 'mechanistic misfits' (i.e. the age of_) who 'practiced' isolated sexual gratification with computer (machines) instaed of having real sex (i.e. actual sexual intercourse) with 'appropriate mating partners' night after (loss of 'human touch') night !??!
