The airline officially lost my luggage between Amsterdam and Toronto

DH, Magnus and I flew from Prague through Amsterdam to Toronto.

After waiting for an hour in the baggage claim, I filled out the lost / delayed baggage claim.

I just contacted KLM and they told me that in all likelihood that my bag is lost but that I had to wait another 24 hours before they would give me further instructions.

So, it sucks. I lost my digital camera and a bit of computer equipment that I don't think they will reimburse me for.

Too bad because it's a bit of a sour taste after such a great trip.

Dragar 09-23-2006 09:22 AM

nice they are wearing your clothes on the town right now

gooddomains 09-23-2006 09:23 AM

Happened to me twice in 20 years of air travel. Really sucks.

Penthouse Tony 09-23-2006 09:50 AM

I've had problems with KLM before. Never completely lost my luggage though. Just delayed a few days.

RobbieRye 09-23-2006 10:25 AM

There was a KLM flight last night from Amsterdam to Toronto. They thought that my bag might have been on there - but no luck.

It's black though.... 100's of black bags have to be lost each day.

I hope that either Amex or KLM pulls through and I at least get enough cash to replace my bag.

Sarah - GTS 09-23-2006 10:31 AM

Damn Rob, I'm sorry to hear that! I really hope they find it!
I'm sure AMEX has insurance to cover it since we booked the flights through them....

tony286 09-23-2006 10:32 AM

man that really sucks

squishypimp 09-23-2006 10:32 AM

happens all the time, they will find it eventually.

Are you serious about the trip tickets? I've been reading a lot of stuff around the net about lost luggage. So far, I've found out that KLM will likely offer me a buck a pound or something like that. Looks like I'll have to do some more reading because if I could score a ticket for next years Amsterdam show for the office, the hassle would be worht it.

I haven't gone through the whole system at Amex yet. But at first try, it looks like Amex (even your fancy one) covers loss and damage of CARRY ON luggage. LMAO.

I've got some 3rd party coverage through my bank but will have to call my banker on Monday when she's in to find out about that.

If anyone has any suggestions of things that i haven't thought of, I'd really appreciate any insight. This is the first time that something like this has happened to me.

that's an awesome idea!! costs them nothing to issue a free ticket. just bitch them as much as you can! :winkwink:

DutchTeenCash 09-23-2006 11:05 AM

if its not insured theyll offer a fixed amount per pound yes, thats pretty normal, the free ticket Ive never heard of doubt if thatll work here, this isnt the US where you can sue someone over a hot coffee.

If you need help lmk, I can call or do whatever is needed here in Holland.

MaDalton 09-23-2006 11:07 AM

damn, rob, that's really shitty. i had that 3 or 4 times, but it always was delivered one or two days later. hope you get that solved asap.

was great partying with you guys though :thumbsup

Trax 09-23-2006 12:01 PM

air france owns klm
no wonder your luggage got fucked up lol

GTS Mark 09-23-2006 12:13 PM

Ahhh man that sucks! Give them shit Robbie and investigate the AMEX option of insurance coverage.

I know my visa through royal bank covers up to $500 in lost luggage, so Amex should offer something in the similiar range.

KLM are the shittiest airline to ever operate. Whenever there's an alternative, DON'T FLY KLM!

Why not? They are one of the few that fly on time(for me at least) and also at 'normal' times...I hate leaving at 5am or 11pm....

As far as the luggage, I always wonder 'where' it is..I mean there must be a place with thousands and thousands suitcases:)

yup, last time i flew southwest they lost my luggage. when they found it 3 days later they called me up. they offered to have it delivered via fedex but i told them i would come to the airport and pick it up. upon arriving i was handed a free voucher for an unrestricted flight to anywhere in the USA round trip :)

I've flown KLM about 15 times. Of all those flights, only two were without any incident, for me. 4-5 were delayed at least 2hrs, one was cancelled and they didn't even give me a hotel room to spend the night, luggage has arrived late 4 times and one time they busted up my suitcase so badly that most less robust stuff I had in it was ready for the garbage. All other airlines I've flown have been on time, every time and my luggage only arrived late once, on a British Airways flight, due to ground staff strike in London's Gatwick airport. Had it happened once, I would've written it off as a coincidence, hey, shit hapens. But for it to happen almost every time, that's no coincidence. It's incompetence.

Check this out, looks like most major airlines sell found luggage to this place after they pay people out: http://www.unclaimedbaggage.com/

Ray@TastyDollars 09-23-2006 05:11 PM

Why would they want to give you back your stuff, they'll make more selling it off on this site :)

Maybe you can buy back your stuff at a descent rate, lol.
