business insurance

I was just thinkin the other day that having business insurance might be a good idea incase some jackoff wanted to sue you.

I did a little reading and it seems like General Lilability business insurance is what I am looking for.

Anyone know about business insurance like this or know the best place to get it?

Thanks

whats the biggest advantage of an LLC over sole proprietorship?

The only thing im worried about is protection against lawsuits, anyone else have any experience with this or business liability insurance?

The very nature of internet businesses (not to mention porn), makes business interruption and general liability insurance rather expensive to get. Especially if your receivables jump rather wildly from month to month. Although you can get it, expect to pay large premiums for the service. If your sole purpose is to minimize losses from litigation, I'd suggest going via holding companies to limit assets that can be seized. Its much likely cheaper and its ironclad.

LLC means a lot of things. The best, and easiest explaination... LLC means if you were sued, they can only come after the "COMPANY'S ASSETS" not your own personal one's too.

They cost around $500.00 to get. Varies a little by area, and how intensive.

Worth every penny.

holding companies? Where can I read more about these and can you give me an example of a good one, perhaps that you use?

Talk to your accountant or attorney about setting one up as it varies from country to country and state to state. Ironically, it may be cheaper to go this route than getting insurance.

You can make insurance if you are producing porn?

A holding company is something you create (with the help of an accountant and legal advisor.) It's exactly what the name states... a company created to hold the assets (or the ownership) of another company.

Usually the holding company is domiciled in some obscure country with laws that make it very unfriendly to sue someone there... hence the protection provided.

i am bringing this thread back to life to hear more about insurance and overall asset protection - especially from lawsuits

pstation 11-17-2006 02:33 PM

people who think they are protected from lawsuits just because they spent a few hundred bucks on an LLC are very wrong.
