Some even 10+ - typically, these users have no other way of paying...

I don't get these places, why encourage surfers to join by phone for a $2 or $5 payout when you can get em by check or CC and get your normal $20 to $40 a month..
sure, maybe stick them in your last spot in your cascade, but I would never give em the option of hitting it first.

Because most of the world does not have a credit card, and the internet is a global medium. Yes, credit card is and remains the best way of billing monthly subscriptions. But phone billing is a great way of offering trials for limited amounts of time - since you get less, you give them less, and you have a new revenue stream from surfers that were visting your sites anyway...
