Yeah 30-day holds are becomming standard policy for most Canadian Chartered banks, and this is poppycock AFAIAC ... it does not take 30 days to clear ANY items from ANYWHERE!
Post 9/11 policy changes -- the reason the banks give us, is a smokescreen allowing them to use our money for 30 days ... INTEREST FREE.
As far as Insta-Cheques goes, the certainly do not cash ANY cheque ... they are actually quite fussy as to which cheques they will cash. They use telephone directory listings as their first screening process. If your cheque has a phone number on it that reverse-directory (Boyers Directory) resolves to the same address on the cheque, then they may cash it ... if your cheque does not have a phone number and address that match Boyers, you can forget it ... you will be blue in the face trying to convince them to cash it, but it still ain't going to happen - they might take a photocopy of your cheque, try to get clearing on it, and phone you if and when this happens, but that is not going to get you your money today.
I have never cashed ARS at Insta-Cheques, but I know CCBill cheques go through without hassles ...
ALSO: forget about cashing cheques drawn on Bank of America at Insta-Cheques -- They would not tell me the reason why, but as soon as the broad looked at the cheque, she said "The issuer is Bank of America - we are instructed not to accept them." :Oh crap
