Moral Dilemma

So, among my vast collection of rides I have a station wagon which I use as a grocery getter. A while back a chuck of rock flew off a dump truck and cracked the windshield. Little did I know my old lady neglected to get glass cover on this particular hooptie.

Anyway I called the glass place and ordered a new windshield, which a guy came out and replaced yesterday. After the job I was ready to pay him and he says, "Oh I guess they might have quoted you the wrong price...instead of $220 it's like uh...$180." So I inspected the job, kicked him $200, the $180 and tip.

Later I noticed that during the job he'd fucked up my car by using a screw driver to pry off some trim tabs and breaking them. Then, he'd hidden his crime by jamming the tabs back in, but the first time I drove the car they vibrated out.

Now I think he KNEW he was guilty and thus gave me the discount.

So what would YOU do in this situation?

He definately knew. I'd go back and tell him I knew what happened, and would appreciate it if he fixed the damage he caused free of charge. I think the fact that he lowered the price in the first place cause he knew he fucked up, means that he will bend and feel guilty and fix it for you hopefully. good luck man :thumbsup

Sell the station wagon.

scottybuzz 09-29-2006 09:06 AM

wow your lucky, in england he would have done the same crappy job, but instead of the discount, probably would have said you been quoted wrong, its going to be more expensive LOL

SxDx 09-29-2006 09:06 AM

you definitely need to call him out

E$_manager 09-29-2006 09:22 AM

Depends on how much is the damage he made. May be it is 40$ then he payed out.

Klen 09-29-2006 09:31 AM

You need to kick his ass.

godisdead 09-29-2006 09:37 AM

What's the problem? You've been defrauded. Call him and make him explain himself. Tell him he screwed up your car and that he should fix it. If you have such a lot of cars this guy is pissing on his own feet if he loses you as a customer because of shit like that. You can tell him that, too, if he becomes bitchy. You are right. You have been defrauded. Now demand justice. No moral dilemma. :wink

I totally would. However, my ass kicking threshold is greater than $10 and the parts from the dealership are $6.

Just get it fixed and move on. Sounds like it is not a huge issue or going to cost you much money. Trying to deal with him to get him fix it for free will probably be more hassle than getting it done yourself. Also, do you want him to do more work on your car after he already fucked it up? Next time use a different company.

You have indeed hit upon the correct solution.

E$_manager 09-29-2006 10:06 AM

It seems to me he tried tp pay you out the damage avoiding the fight.

They should guarantee their work. The guy that replaced mine does.
