Photog's What kind of Glass to get

I just got a new Canon 30D and it came with the standard EFS 15-55mm lens.

What other lenses are must have?

Juilan 10-08-2006 07:32 AM

Canon "L" glass. I like the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4.0L USM. And the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM ain't bad.

What he said. 17-40 is a great archtechture / all round lens.
24-70 f2.8 is the perfect portrait lens.
50 f1.4 gives great dof too

Depends on what you inted to shoot with it.

I shot this with the stock crap lens that came with my 20D. I think it's an 18-55mm or something like that.

The #1 lense you'll want is the canon 50mm f/1.4 or the f/1.8 Mark I (if you can find it, or the mark II). BEST LENSE for portraits.

if you really have doh, wait till next month for the 50mm f/1.2

Outdoor - 17-40, or the 16-35 if you need f2.8
Indoor: As above. Maybe the 14mm if you have the $ to blow
Real close: Look at the macro series.
