Banning All Surfers - A solution.
After reading what AaronM posted about banning surfers I think he's right, this is "Where the industry meets" not "where surfers meet the industry"
I think that every member on this board should get an email questionaire sent to them that they must fill out and if it is determined that they are a sufer, their account gets shitcanned until they can prove that they actually contribute something to this industry. Sorry but this is my :2 cents: and just how I feel it should be... I'll even add a poll... |
so then n00bs couldnt signup and learn the industry before creating their own site?
|
Sounds good!
|
Yeah, sufers begone.

i think most people start off as a surfer before becoming a wembmaster... Some come here to learn. I got here after an argument with my wife... I decided it would be better to type gofuckyourself into my browser than to tell it to my wife. Long behold I found what I wanted to do with my life.
|
I dont think its necessary.. easier on the admins to make a sticky post where 'outted surfers', trolls, and other GFY flotsum's names are submitted.
The top 5-10 names are deleted.... repeat every other month as needed. |
i agree 100%

They could just google the answers.

The questionaire would take forever to do.
The best thing to do is just charge something reasonable like $500/year to access the forum that would get rid of 100% of the surfers and prevent saturation also. |

you would loose 80% of the traffic thus killing the "community" |

plus again it would kill the community because some other forum would pop up really quick and the traffic would just shift to that one. |
you think that would be in their intrests?
surfers = more page views = more $ in the pocket |
Quote:
its that simple :) |
Why would GFY want to do that? They're about page views and members in order to get the most advertising dollars they can.. This idea would reduce that.

not to mention, the 10,000 blogs that go up each day do push traffic and believe me, sponsors want to nab those people because each sale is worth it to them. |

I guess I'll just have to inhibit from participating on this poll..

ah fuck me , in the time i have been here as as a member and a guest , i haven't come across anything that would make me want to cough up that sort of money , sure there once in awhile there might be something that is relevant but the majority of it is just normal forum rambling words from attention seekers what you people need to get into your mind is that this place is a commercial place , it has long since left the days of being " where the adult community meets " and has just turned into " where you can buy your ad space " |
Sure verify if they have a website, sounds good :thumbsup
|
Yes I like the idea, very good.
|
lol
poor adult.com team all the thousands of emails... |

why dont you actually think... |
It's an interesting idea, but I don't think it is viable. I think just going through and killing the obvious sigwhores would help a great deal. The board has very little business on it these days and even when a good business thread comes up, it's usually off the front page in a matter of minutes.
Getting rid of some of that nonsense and those who clearly are not in the industry would help a great deal. It would put less clutter on the forums and less noise in each good business thread. It's not hard to pick out guys like squishypimp and just ban them. It's one thing for someone new to come, read, ask a few questions and work, it's another to post 200 times a day and call it "learning". |
bump to the top, this needs more votes
|
Here is another idea. How about just killing the sigs on people till they prove they are in the industry? Lets face it, guys like squishypimp wouldn't be here if they didn't have a sig. This idea would also give more value to those with sigs and hopefully bring back valuable posters as their sig and views would be worth much more.

Squishy: Remove your sig for 2 months to prove you're not here for signature revenue.
We all know you won't do it. |

I decided to try my luck with this industry early 2002 so I started reading the industry sites like xbiz.com or pornresource.com and in the same time I had someone designing a simple site for me ( didn't have much tech skills then, in fact I still dont have them lol )
then I started in this industry June 2002 and actually in same month I registered on GFY, because I saw it linked on another forum ( somone linked a thread with thehun cars ) So I registered here and decided to post while I was still making next to none money in the first 3-4 months. But my attitude was completely different than people like madawgz or squishypimp nowadays, I wasnt an attention whore and I wasnt seling my sig ( well, if someone told me I could sell it I'd probably have done it though, Im doing it today but the money from it isnt significant to me obviously ) The problem is that its a total anarchy nowadays,. all the newbies who arent even in this industry start making lots of threads about themselves and voicing their opinions on other matters pretending that others should care about it. And they dont have respect to anyone... |
kill the surfers and the sigwhores!

What it all comes down to is paying your dues. If you paid your dues by being on the road as an affiliate manager, shooting content for mortgage money, grinding code for 8 bucks an hour, spending long nights in a server room, etc.. most established people here (successful or not) have paid their dues for this industry in some fashion. |
You can't lump everyone together though. I don't have a web site but I shoot and edit video and have been trying to gain some business contacts and hopefully get some work. But being that I don't have a site that makes me a surfer by your guidelines.
However, I'm not here making 50+ posts a day either because I would rather just make posts in threads that I can actually relate to or maybe add some input. Not all people who have no sites are surfers or sig whores... |
I'm going to have to disagree here. What about the webmaster just getting into the industry? Banning people from this board and creating a a model where you must be accepted into the community smacks of elitist bullshit. Sure, ban the idiots, but don't close the doors.

what about me? some say im a surfer, well, i really am, only because i recently got OUT of adult, but i have been in the webmastering biz for 6 years and adult for 4+... but now that i decided to take internetting as a hobby again, im a surfer, thus i would be banned... which isn't cool, because i like the atomosphere here and i also like to keep up on whats going on in the biz...
