Visit...there is so much and it depends on what you are interested in but take a double decker tour on your first day. Yes, it is cheesey (just like the ones in London) but they give you a good overview of the city and then you can go back and see more of things that took your interest with a better idea of the layout of the city.

Easiest (and probably most cost effective) way to see New York is to do the double-decker tour bus thing. It's a real touristy thing to do...but hey, that's what you are. It takes you everywhere and you can get on or off as many times and at as many places as you want.

Planning on going with my fiancee the end of November (06).

Well the end of novemeber is Thanksgiving. If you are in New York on Thanksgiving morning you *must* go see the parade.

I was there last year the week before Thanksgiving (which I then spent with my folks). Take a coat and hat when you do the double decker bus but it is worth it. Fight your way though Time Square atleast once. It reminds me that Oxford Street really isn't all that busy.

Well tbh it's either a trip to London for 3 or 4 nights or a trip to New York for 3 or 4 nights, we've been to neither before . (Passedthrough London but not stopped to look around).

Seems like you know them both, what would you recommend ?.

Where in the UK are you from?

I would suggest New York but that is because I like going to places with a different culture than my own. If you aren't used to cities than both are going to be a bit of a culture shock. New York is the most like London of any of the American cities I have been to but is still very much its own place (planet..lol). You will most likely get the chance to visit London again in your life so I would go to New York. Afterall, both places are going to be cold in Novemeber so you mineaswell be cold in a different country..lol

Things people tend to see:

The Statue Of Liberty

Ellis Island - http://www.ellisisland.com/ (it means less to UK people than to us but it is still an important part of world history and a nice building)

The Empire State Building

Ground Zero - depressing for most but again, important to world history and somehow makes it more 'real' to see it.

All of which are stops on the tour busses, btw. The tour bus tickets are usually good for 24hrs so if you buy it at noon it is good until noon the next day and you can get on and off.
There are loads more things but again, it all depends on what you are intersted in.

Not bothered about clubs or anything like that, just the shops, attractions, the food, bars etc.... the usual.
