woj 10-14-2006 03:56 PM

spasmo 10-14-2006 03:57 PM

Servers = Linux. Desktops = Windows.

I use what works for the application at hand. A laptop running Linux that I want to edit shit and watch DVDs on.. er, no. Long battery life Linux? Not quite.

KRL 10-14-2006 04:07 PM

I use both. Linux is actually pretty slick now for desktops.

Try this Linux Ubuntu 6.06 LTS.

http://www.ubuntu.com

It's the most popular Linux desktop now.

Adultnet 10-14-2006 09:09 PM

Mostly I use windows(server/desktop use) and its doing really good but I have linux based servers that are doing great. :)

Fizzgig 10-14-2006 09:11 PM

I'd like to change over to Linux. Perhaps soon.

mlove 10-14-2006 09:29 PM

servers run freebsd, desktop runs windows.

linux is over-rated.

UniversalPassLorence 10-14-2006 09:36 PM

I'm using Slackware 10.1

I found this version of Slackware to be pretty much what I expected in the fundamental areas. It was as usual stable, reliable, and fully functional. The installer was a familiar face and worked flawlessly and even sets up some of the tedious little configurations for the user such as network, root password, and timezone.

Here is desktop http://www.tuxmachines.org/images/slack7.png

SLACKWARE 10.1 is the best :)

en21 10-15-2006 03:30 AM

linux is probably not ready for desktop due to software compatibility

tgpmakers 10-15-2006 03:32 AM

Fedora Core 5 on Desktop and Servers.

Elixir 10-15-2006 03:36 AM

I agree with you linux is great for servers..
But Do you use UNIX ?

adultguus 10-15-2006 06:59 AM

I prefer BSD above Linux for servers.

Zuss 10-15-2006 07:05 AM

I use linux on my desktop. For servers, there is no alternative to linux, bsd and other unix systems.

Ubuntu is a nice desktop distribution.

rodney25 10-15-2006 08:22 PM

I am planning to shift on Linux soon. Wish me luck. :)

squishypimp 10-15-2006 08:23 PM

marketsmart 10-15-2006 08:45 PM

reynold 10-15-2006 11:25 PM

corruptorVV 10-16-2006 12:19 AM

linux is way more stable and windows

FlowerKid 10-16-2006 01:16 AM

I prefer FreeBSD for servers because it's very clean and stable.
For the desktop i use Windows 2000 and Windows XP because of the tools / software / hardware which it's compatible with.

gooddomains 10-16-2006 01:19 AM
