<scandalous> Make Poll Answers Trackabale, READ THIS

Interesting subject ...

Came up in a conversation with a buddy of mine last night about how these sites geared towards teens and grade school kids are just flying off the hook when done right.

We came up with some thoughts, although they are quit devious ;)

What if we had a poll go out to the entire grade school his daughter was attending... It had questions that were both multiple choice and fill in the blank.. basic so far, right ?

Here's where it gets interesting .. We were wondering if there are hidden fields we could use besides IP address that would "Identfiy" the computer being used to answer the form.

This way if Johnny could log on to Susie's computer when she went to the bathroom he could go to My computer, click properties, see the name of her computer - go to the survey database and look for the answers to a survey filled out from her computer 'name' or her 'workgroup' or 'domain' etc.. with the IP address she has.

Yes, there are hundreds of loopholes, I won't even get into them because they are infinite ... For starters ... not alll ip's are static, this would be pretty damn unethical and downright scandalous, this list goes on ... :pimp

However, there are other applications for such a concept ..

So the question is besides IP Address are there other hidden form fields you can put into questionnaires that would identify the computer it was answered from such as computer name, workgroup, any hardware I.D's, processor, so on? I'll do some digging to see what the IP hidden input field would be, but ANY OTHERS anyone here knows would be very helpful.. Want to play with some concepts for this

there are ways to source hardware info , but without some form of an application running i don't think there is a way to get that info over the net , would need be something client side running

I remember visiting a website a while back, had no application (from them anyways) running and it told me my computer name, workgroup name, and IP address ... So I know at least those 3 are possible. I just don't know how to source them.

Any programmers with any ideas - either write here or drop me a line at [email protected] - I'll make it worth your time for the info if I need to. It's essential I figure out a way to do this. Not for what me and him were discussing but an entirely different concept that will be really.. really.... really cool once it is on order. Pretty Psyched about it ;)

Why doesn't he just read her diary?

As far as I'm concerned, tricking your kid like that is something I'd never do unless I have a reason to think that he's in immediate danger.

fogot about netbios , ports 135-139
which if the admin at the school is any good , would have those ports blocked to the outside world

Read this part ...

"However, there are other applications for such a concept .. "

Took a while for a jackass to jump the gun, suprised! Most people took time to comprehend what I was trying to do before they outright bashed me. What is GFY coming to <SHOCK>

rml1608 10-29-2006 06:49 AM

Biftek, think other applications that have nothing to do with the example .. The example was just given so I didn't lay out my idea on what I am going to be doing with this for everyone and their mother to copy ;)

http://www.oilofalay.com/computername.html

Unfortunately, Windows doesn't hand this information over lightly.

First of all, it's an activeX thing... meaning IE only.

Then, you have to go to your internet options > security > trusted sites
add http://www.oilofalay.com

Reload the url I just posted above... and you'll have your computer and user name.

But this only works when your security settings are rediculously low or if it's on a "trusted site".

That sucks, I wonder if there is other information that windows considers less of a security threat.. possibly even universal among mac users... Such as an ID # for the browser that is Unique.

ANYTHING AT ALL that could be posted in a hidden field where someone could verify that the person who submitted that form did indeed do it from a specific computer. In other words, undeniably tying the poll answers to a computer.... or any form's answers to be precise ..

The ip is enough for that

i think i see where your going with this and im pretty sure theres sites around for this..

i.e. the site emails your kid a poll from a "friend" then emails the poll to the parents..

Also think infidelity :) And the questions your girlfriend will never answer truthfully to you but for a free $25 Victoria Secrets giftcard they might - ya follow ?

I'm too full of ideas and to little action - if I had the right team assembled undermeath me I swear to god I would be a millionaire again in under a year seriously. I just need to become more ambitious I guess.
