Going to Kiev - any advice for customs?

am off to kiev soon, any advice on how much money you can bring in and the customs procedure? is it safe??

I've only been to Ukraine once. I had to take some scientific equipment through customs and it took hours for them to clear us. We only got out after protracted letter writing and tax payments in US dollars with help from a local. It was almost as difficult getting out of the country! Other equipment we posted to colleagues in Ukraine never did arrive.
Having said all that I found the people were generally very welcoming, friendly and helpful.

HI Paul. To bad that I am in Saint Petersburg now, otherwise we can meet in Kiev. Have no idea how much money you can bring with you in cash thru custom, but my guess not more than 10 000 US$ if you will have more you will need to fill up a custom declaration. Better take a credit card. And believe me Kiev is a safe and friendly place.

get a debit card and take money from atm,dont carry a lot of money with you anyhow
