The gator that is believed to have attacked a man in Lake Parker in Lakeland early Wednesday morning has been caught.

The sheriff's office received multiple calls about 4 a.m. about a man yelling for help in the area of Lake Parker County Park, across the street from the Moose Lodge on East Lake Parker.

Four deputies arrived and heard a man in the water calling for help, saying he was being attacked by an alligator.

Deputies found the man, 45-year-old Adrian J. Apgar, in the jaws of the gator. They pulled Apgar from the alligator and made their way about 40 feet to shore where an ambulance was waiting to transport him to Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

All the deputies made it out of the water without injury.

Apgar was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center in critical condition with an apparent broken right arm, a partially amputated left arm and major trauma to his left upper leg.

According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, Apgar was naked and said he was smoking crack.

"In Polk County,we say he was 'butt nekkid,'" Judd said. "He didn't even have his socks on. He was totally nude and we don't know why."
