40 Things You Didn't Know About Sleep

Found this interesting
http://abc.net.au/science/sleep/facts.htm

* The record for the longest period without sleep is 18 days, 21 hours, 40 minutes during a rocking chair marathon. The record holder reported hallucinations, paranoia, blurred vision, slurred speech and memory and concentration lapses.

* Seventeen hours of sustained wakefulness leads to a decrease in performance equivalent to a blood alcohol-level of 0.05%.

* Ducks at risk of attack by predators are able to balance the need for sleep and survival, keeping one half of the brain awake while the other slips into sleep mod

BlackCrayon 12-01-2006 01:01 PM

want a better chance at avoiding cancer? get a good sleep. studies show that when you don't get proper sleep you can alter the balance between hormones that influence cancer cells.

mattz 12-01-2006 01:12 PM

SlamDesigns 12-01-2006 02:16 PM

I just find it kindda interesting that you posted a story about sleep and you promote a site called "Night Invasions". lol. Dunno why I find that so amusing..could be because I'm sleep deprived right now myself. Interesting read though.

Oh man, I tried Ambien and Lunesta, both made me ill and feel worn out the next day.
Now I take melatonin and it works great for me.
Has no side effects, is all natural and only costs $7 for a bottle rather than the
$100 for the prescription sleep aids. A little info for those of you who have trouble sleeping. :)
BTW, I found this quote funny......
- Experts say one of the most alluring sleep distractions is the 24-hour accessibility of the internet.
LOL True that!

rounders 12-01-2006 03:07 PM

wow hahahah no sleep for 17days? crazy.

mikeyddddd 12-01-2006 03:13 PM

I only sleep 3-4 hours per day. I have hallucinated after staying up for 3 days.

My brother can sleep anywhere. When we were kids my mom picked up all the neighborhood kids after the movies. She did a head count and one was missing. We looked outside the car and my brother was asleep standing up.

BigCashCrew 12-01-2006 03:33 PM

It's always nice to read interesting facts you didn't know. :)
