Best concert you ever went to...
I liked reading the responses to LiveDose's "First concert..." thread so much I now want to ask about the best...
I'm torn between three shows- Patti Smith, Seattle July 22, 1979 - Patti tore the Paramount Theatre to the ground. A Rock n Roll religious experience. Bruce Springsteen, Seattle Dec. 20, 1978 - the last show of Springsteen's biggest year up to that point. Legendary among Springsteen fanatics. Grateful Dead, Oakland Dec. 28, 1982 - not their best show ever but a fantastic show from a personal perspective. |
I've been to over 150 shows in my life..pretty much have seen everybody..best show ever? no question..Pink Floyd July of '94 pontiac silverdome north of detroit. unfucking believable. it was like an out of body experience. too bad that was their farewell tour.

|
two were absolutely amazing:
1st was sugarhill gang 2nd was dasefx + fugees david hasselhoff was pretty cewl too, but thats another story. |
No question...PANTERA @ Long Beach Arena '01
It was the last tour they ever did, and boy did they fuck shit up. There was a circle 8 moshpit about 100 yards long and around! The best part was that inside the circles, there were fuckin mini-pits!!! People were brawlin, throwin beer bottles, about 20 skinheads decided to start shit with like, 20 native-american dudes...It was fuckin insane!!! To top it off, Pantera themselves, played the tightest and energetic show I've ever seen...and I've easily seen over 100 shows. That night will never be forgotten, I got the scars to remind me...FFFUUUCCCKKKIIINNNN MMMEEETTTAAALLLL!!!!! |
lollapalooza '96, Metallica, Soundgarden, Ramones, Rancid!
|
ELP at the Bowl has to rank up there
The Who Quadraphenia Tour was pretty outstanding as well |
I'd have to say: Bad Brains at the Rage in Baltimore. Shitty little short-lived club with a pool table in the middle of the floor, it barely qualifies as a "concert", but it was an amazing time.
I've probably played more shows than any 10 of you have ever seen combined and I've attended 10x as many as that and nothing compares to the energy of the Bad Brains. Close 2nd: Slayer/ Testament at Painter's Mill in Baltimore. Not only was Slayer awesome, but I got to see bouncers carried off in stretchers |

Jethro Tull in Barcelona last may, tied with Ian Anderson with orchestra + Lucia Micarelli a couple of weeks later in Iceland
|
Tough call. 4 way lead tie between Violent Femmes at an outdoor concert 1993-ish, Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins in an old church 2006, Nomeansno at some dinky hall circa 1997, and The Gossip in some crappy bar probably 2002.

Saw Metallica and Guns N' Roses at the Oakland coliseum in high school. Someone offered me my first mushrooms. I ate too many, I guess and somehow managed to go find a bit of solitude in the upper decks during Metallica - somehow their music soothed the soul as I watched the mosh pits swirling around below. I left the stadium when Guns came on and walked around the parking lot with a bunch of other sketchy people who were also walking around the parking lot. When the show ended my group found me at sitting by the car with a big smile on my face. I had a new found appreciation for Metallica after that show. |
Strung out - 10/2006 tempe, az
Great show :) |
Mr. Bungle, with Sleepytime Gorilla Museum at a close second.
|
James Blunt gave a kick ass concert this last October! :thumbsup

Pantera surely had some of the best live performances ever, but anything good dont last forever... Now... best concert I've been to might be the one 11 months ago, it was "Those still loyal" tour with Bolt Thrower, Malevolent Creation, Necrophagist and Nightrage.... holy shit I'd never forget that one... outside was -15C, but inside 50C with Malevolent Creation as one of my favorite bands, I "boiled" all the time.... |
Skinny Puppy, Halloween night 04. Mind-blowingly good show with amazing sound.
|
NIN/Bowie @ Shoreline in '94. Hands-down.
|
The last one i went was Shakira - very good. Really iliked it very much.
But looking back, the best one was Mylen Farmer. Good show, dance and sound. |
The Smashing Pumpkins with Garbage as the opener.

Sorry but I don't go to a show for the fights ... I go to see and hear the band play the songs I love live in front of me. Ah well... depends how much you love music really. I can't say there's anything in this world after my family and my girlfriend that I love more than music. It's the best thing ever :) |

Scorpions, Sheryl Crowe, CranBerries,a nd of course, Eric Clapton's concert tour.
|
The Cult around 1985ish? GnR actually opened for them. The Cult in 2006 still sounded good. Though Ian Astbury is channelling Jim Morrison a bit much for my liking. lol 30 Seconds To Mars about 6 months ago was awesome too, but that might be because I'm in love with Jared Leto!

That was Pearl Jam not U2 - Vedder with Bono :thumbsup |
I used to be a ticket broker, so I was going to concerts all the time. I've literally been to 100's of shows and I have to say that the Foo Fighters put on one of the best live shows Ive seen in awhile. Rolling Stones and Velvet Revolver might be a close second.
|
saw soul asylum before they had any hits in the smallest club. great show.
pantera in Giants stadium parking lot, great as well. one band that was great live and surprised me was Midnight Oil, I just happened to be there and they kicked ass live! Oh, Tori Amos always puts on a great show. |
Roger Waters, June 30, 2001, The Gorge Amphitheater a few hours east of Seattle.

U2 played Monday-Thursday or something like that at Air Canada ... then Pearl Jam played for one night right after U2. Bono came out and played Keep Rocking in the Free World with Veddar and PJ. Great frickin' show. You Canadians know how to have a good concert. : ) |
