So if I buy a Sony TV... I get a million little bouncy balls free? Or does this commercial mean my TV would bounce all over the place if I drop it? I hate pointless commercials that don't tell you anything about the fucking product.

tony286 12-01-2006 10:12 PM

In an age when CGI is commonplace, this makes the commercial all the more extraordinary. Every single frame was shot over two days - with the main sequence involving a 23-man camera crew and only one chance to get it right.

An entire block was closed off and special compressed-air cannons shot the balls into the air, while earth moving equipment poured thousands down the street. Not that you'd know it from the finished product, but these balls can do some damage, so all the cars were props and crew members went so far as to having protective shields and crash helmets.

But when you get it right, you get it right. The goal at the beginning was to deliver a "really simple, visual celebration of colour". We think you'll agree the results speak for themselves.

xcitecash 12-02-2006 01:59 AM

Sony Bravia 46" is the nuts

"It's surprising in that it was done for real," Bigg says, "With rocket launchers and tipper trucks and helicopters, when actually post-production could have done that all quite warmly in an edit suite somewhere. But it was done for real, and allegedly every powerball in America was bought to be used. There were glazers trucks positioned out of shot all over San Francisco in case windows got smashed and car windscreens got smashed. They found for quite a few days afterwards pools of balls that were in gullies and corners."

Lol that is pretty cool

Nathan 12-03-2006 03:59 AM

Both the Balls and the Paint commercial are 100% real.

Why do you think the commercials have a website if it were just CGI?

so, even with videos like this - https://youtube.com/watch?v=o1bEOtpqYpA - that show a step by step, you think they CGI'ed the behind the scenes to

wow, that must have took a lot of work to bring out empty bins and cgi balls into them

E$_manager 12-03-2006 04:10 PM

Yes, that is really cool!

Uhm how about showing ACTUAL FUCKING FILM FOOTAGE and compare that? Instead of a bunch of bouncing colored balls? How do balls equate to colors? How do bouncing balls equate to anything but fucking bouncing balls? If commercials exist to sale a product then at least EXPLAIN your fucking product. What makes your TV marginally different than the others? All the bouncing ball commercial made me think is “wow, maybe if Sony had put the money it cost them to make that commercial into developing better batteries instead of the junk they sold Dell, Apple, and other companies, maybe they wouldn’t have had to spend billions in recalling them!”

CaptainHowdy 12-03-2006 05:54 PM

Great stuff !!

gecko 12-03-2006 06:09 PM

that was great..

rowan 12-03-2006 06:21 PM

Wow... both ads are or have shown in Australia, I figured they were just CGI. It's almost a waste of time doing the real thing when everyone just assumes it's all computer magic these days. :)

not really, the awards and viral-ness of them has gotten them far more exposure than any cgi shit would have

hell, I would have cared less if they did CGI.....oooo wow, someone else can work a computer....but they did the real deal, and the videos are so viral right now because of it...pure genius advertising

this, my friends, is EXACTLY what a company hopes for when creating an ad of this type

same with the Honda COGS ad.....pure genius and it still ends up in my email inbox at least once every 6 months

longkk 12-03-2006 08:52 PM

cool...:thumbsup
