Best TV Character of all time?

Archie Bunker man. Think about what an original and provacative and true to the times character he was. That show is as funny today as it was then. Archie Bunker is in his own league for me. One of the best characters ever.

Yeah, but that show approached ignorance and racism in such a way that it made Archie out to be the butt of the joke 99% of the time. I think that the show actually did more to help the anti-racism sentiment than it's given credit for. Sure, it shows him as a racist hardhead, but by his character being so over the top, it instantly associates his ignorance with being out of the norm and not acceptable.

Maybe I should think less about the effects of all in the family on the american psychi lmao...

...I need sleep. :(

Alf Garnett, the original character from Till Death Do Us Part.

Also Derrik Trotter from Only Fools and Horses.

Or even Basil Fawlty from Fawlty Towers.

Anyone notice a trend here?

All British and all written years ago.

Babagirls 12-02-2006 11:03 PM

no contest, Al Bundy!!!

:thumbsup

Well, sure the character has been done a million times. Al Bundy is basically the same character. Homer Simpson in a way aswell. But, as far as pulling it off and making you believe that Archie Bunker was a living breathing soul that you might see down at the local pub, the character combined with the acting of Carol O'Conner wins it for me.

If we are doing British shows who was the effeminte guy on "are you being served"?

Al "freakin" Bundy!. Not only is Al the man, but his character, and that show single handedly made the fow network a success, financially.
And it is one of the longest running shows ever. 13 yrs, i think.

Hard to argue with Archie Bunker. I think Frank Burns from MASH makes the top five though.
