What's your take on hazing?

I find it ridiculous...Just watching a trial case on Court TV from a hazing gone bad...Just when do you draw the line?

Simon IA Cash 12-04-2006 02:35 PM

Hazing always makes me shake my head. I've never been the victim of one in my life, but I've felt bad for the people that have. People need better outlets for their aggression and sadistic tendencies.

junction 12-04-2006 03:05 PM

As a former firefighter, I can say that I think hazing is bullshit.

vvq 12-04-2006 04:39 PM

what's wrong with hazing? it's a bonding experience.

Its a chance for jocks to let their inner homo out.

Only those who have tried and went through with it can understand it's true nature..

Well, you dont have to join the military, be a policeman, fireman, or any other kind of "brotherhood" if you dont want to go through the initiations. Could always do something else. :2 cents:

You don't have to go through hazing to be part of a "brotherhood."

I remember a story out of Florida where firefighters had a hazing ritual called "scrotum on the head."
They made the newbie sit on a chair blindfolded, then they each took turns putting their scrotum on their head...now how is that going to improve some bullshit bond?

As someone already pointed out...it's just so "tough guys" and jocks can get their inner homo out.

Some unwanted incidents can happen during hazing and that's what we really don't want to happen to our kids..

Nad 12-05-2006 12:05 PM

hazing - done tastefully - I have no problem with it..

It is when the younger ones, who just got hazed, come out with a vengance to haze others....

I knew a kid that smelled like garlic for 7 straight days because someone asked/made him east a small jar of garlic... STANK!

shannmarie 12-05-2006 12:38 PM

I've heard of dudes getting Tabasco put on their privates.... then having to go into a jacuzzi..... OOUUCCHH.

obviously boys didn't know how to keep their mouth shut in college ---- until positions changed the next semester, and they expected the same hush-hush from their own pledges....

_Richard_ 12-05-2006 12:41 PM

harmful hazing is bullshit.. just people exploiting a position they feel they have..

wow, that's really harsh.... NOT!

NinjaSteve 12-05-2006 01:11 PM

Hazing for life! That's what the ninja says!

Aneros Josh 12-05-2006 01:11 PM

Why do people feel they have the right to dictate to other groups what they can/can't do to initiate people into THEIR group? If you don't want to go through the associated hazing it's very simple: DON'T join the group. I think that most of the hazing ceremonies are childish and often ridiculous in nature but I don't believe in taking a particular group's traditions/hazing rituals away especially when nobody is holding a gun to your head and making you become a part of their group.

Trial case on Court TV?

McGill last year wasnt enough? :winkwink:

"initiation" is ok by me, all out hazing & the way alot of its done at the "upper" levels is just wrong.
I knew a guy that was sent to the hospital with swollen balls from having tobasco & all kindsa weird shit slathered on & he tried to wash it off with water & stuff which just made it worse.
(glad I never went to Lennoxville ;p)
