That is bullshit.Plus there is already many companies who offer per gigabyte expense.And they dont CHARGE per space only per bandwith so this is actualy much much expensive solution then any other.

This is a huge deal and a great service for big sites. There is no whoopee doo to it. As the OP mentioned it allows anyone to scale flawlessly to any size without laying out tens of k's.

It is cheap enough considering what it is. If you can't see the benefits in what they offer you are looking at it the wrong way. How many people just here overpay for their hosting account because it is the only package offered? How many big ass companies have way more storage requirements than normal for the amount of b/w they use? This service definately has it's place and would save a lot of people a lot of money. :2 cents:

I can count on one hand the number of adult companies that spend 1m+ / year
for hosting.
Let alone that this kind of services always fails because they're bulk,
at the volumes they do they'll never be able to provide a good service apart
from bandwidth and hardware.
But this is not hosting is all about and this is why so many hosting companies
exist. If hosting was as easy as issuing a press release nobody would survive
except the ones with big money.

I was beta testing this for some time, and we are using one ec2 server and quite a few s3 buckets in our current system. Will it replace traditional hosting, no. Never. Not until you can get a dedicated ip, and amazon creates a better setup and management system for you ec2 machines.

What it does do is give someone a way to scale a new project quickly during testing.

The service has been available forever you fruitcake. You don't have to spend a million / year to overpay for hosting. I have a $100 / month server right now with a total of 16 gigs of data stored on it and a whopping 2 gigs / month in b/w being used. Now, you tell me how much I am going to have to pay to get a hosting account with you that is suitable for 16 gigs of data. Oh wait I see it on your site, only $150 for your cheapest dedicated since your pos virtual accounts hold the huge figures of 300 to 3000 MB for between $15.95 and $120.95. Now lets look at S3. Wow I need to spend $2.40 for the storage and $0.40 for the bandwidth. Even if you offered me a deal on your cheapest account to up the storage I'd still be paying multiple times over what S3 costs. As for them going down, do your damn research. They are leveraging their experience with website traffic to offer this service to anyone.

In summary, not only are you an idiot, you are an idiot with an agenda.

Sun has had such a service for years, but the price was $1/hour per server instance compared to $.10 in this case.
