do Verizon phones use a SIM card???

My Father in Law uses Verizon and he needs a new phone. he just picked up the Acura RL and his old phone has no Bluetooth so i want to buy him one for Christmas. Do they use a SIM card so i can just buy the phone or do i have to bring him and get the # and all switched over??

I Figured someone here would know.

Nope. No sim card for Verizon, Sprint, and a few others. They are CDMA carriers, which also means you can't buy an unlocked phone.

Cingular and T-Mobile are the two big GSM networks.

You can still port the number from carrier to carrier. I recently moved from Verizon (no sim) to Cingular and got to keep my number. But you'll need to get him a Verizon phone, since they're basically locked to their own network.

No, Verizon is not a GSM network. No SIM cards. You may be able to buy a CDMA phone, and get it activated with Verizon. I dont know if they will do that or not, though.

No sim card Mikey, you gotta buy the phone and then he can call and activate it (switch to the new one) over the phone by calling verizon

That's what i thought but wasn't 100%. I'll just buy him a nice phone and then watch him deal with customer service to activate it and switch the # ..:1orglaugh should take all the fun out of getting the new phone ..:helpme

I was hoping it would be like our Cingular phone .. I Just took the card out of my Razor and put it in my blackberry and it was good to go ..:thumbsup

I think I just saw something on my Verizon account that implied I could upload my stuff to a website, then from there to my phone.

It is my secondary phone, so wasn't paying a lot of attention.

BTW, could you ask Ray to contact me please?
