How many connections to a large VPS is considered good.
I having downtime a lot today. My host tells me my site connections are overloaded so what is considered normal on a large VPS account?
|
what is a large vps account ?
specs ? |
Depends on the host node. in theory the machine can hold as much as ram / memory per vps.
as long as your host doesn't overload it and keeps realistic resources per vps. you could indeed put 20 people on 256mb ram each on a 10gb ram dual dual core box. Are you using more resources and black holeing your vps? I'm assuming this is Virtuozzo or that crap openVz thats free. icq me we do vps's past up your bean counter too. would help tell what your using and or if they dont' have it configured right. |
Just watch out for the hosts that get the 300 or 100 or even the 500 Clients per server licensing. God knows you can put 32-64gb of ram on a server but 300 VPS's sharing.. 4 dual core optys? not happening :-/ welcome to godaddy VPS hosting!

how many do you have? I haven't used VPS and the shared I have been using have been for ecommerce sites and those are fairly resource heavy, and even then I'm allowed to have around 50 connections simultaneously without abusing my account.
most often hosts haven't configured their servers correctly which causes people to overload them at low usage... |
VPS customers? only a handful we don't push VPS alot though we should Our current vps node has a load of .10-.20 with a dozen VE's running. because its a good middle ground from shared to Dedicated. tend to think of a VPS as a semi-dedicated.
Your connections that you can run in your vps also depend on how your software inside your VPS is setup. Memory management is the biggest thing in the VPS's |
Hi,
Sorry about the late answer. Here are my specs; Bandwidth 3 gig Disk space 30 gig Memory burst 512 - 1gig Connections 150 but they increased this to 250. I might add that this is a managed VPS and I do have a programmer that works daily for me. The vps has been optimized. If I am overloading, should the main offending website be on a dedicated server and if so, how will that help? Lyn |

However, there are issues such as inodes and open connections that do get in the way, and these are issues that are easily resolved with a dedicated server. Judging by the specs you laid out, you can get a small dedicated and run all your sites on it without having to worry about too many open connections. |
I would upgrade to a dedicated, I have a older one that's has cpanel for $189 hit me up.
VPS is not very high traffic sites it's more for suites that need allot of CPU. If you need both then definably time to upgrade. 249 028 685 |
