Hottest Day in Melbourne in 50 years - Pics

Today reached 43 degree?s here in Melbourne and in some parts of Victoria it reached 47 degree?s, it was that hot that I could not even touch the steering wheel in the car without burning my hands. We are having major bushfires on the outskirts of Victoria which is really sad as so much native bush land is being destroyed and houses and life?s are in danger. I am a good 300 kilometers away from the fires, but the smoke is all over Melbourne as you can see from the pictures I have taken. Normally I have a perfect view of the city from my rooftop. I have to praise the efforts of our Victorian firefighters, putting there life?s on the line for us all, we owe them big time.

It has been like this for the last three days, but as of 4:14pm this afternoon the temperature has gone down to 27 degree?s in the space of 15 minutes, that really makes me laugh about Melbourne, I don?t think I know of a place any where in the world where the temperature can change so dramatically.

The cool change is welcome though, we are expecting rain tonight which will be great for the bushfires.

That was an average day in the summer this year where I live. I'm about 30 minutes north of Hollywood, CA. :winkwink:

Fires suck, btw - we had some bad ones as well!

Stay safe and cool man - Thank god for swimming pools and air conditioners

Yesterday's expected was 37, today's was 39 (it went higher)

Tomorrow's expected is 20 which is quite mild (although still warm in the sun)

So it's all over the place. :Oh crap

I remember new year's eve 2005, the temp was 47C at around 5pm, and still 30C at midnight.

edit: 47C = 117F. Freakin' hot

Cyber Fucker 12-10-2006 07:20 AM

omg that sucks for me cuz I think of living in Australia and such temperatures scare me, I hate hot :( Are there any places in Australia with lower temperatures than Melbourne...? Is it cooler more on west for example in Perth?

Melbourne is actually cold most of the time, its only around this time of year that it is hot and will stay hot for a few more months, then the rest of the year it is very cold.

lol, I wouldn't call it "very cold" - how often has it snowed in Melbourne? Temp rarely goes below zero (freezing) in the metro area and when it does it's at like 4am
