Yeah nothing about this doesn't fall under "too good to be true" so I tend to agree but they make a good enough front that I wonder...

martinsc 12-13-2006 12:08 AM

sounds like scam to me...

MarkTiarra 12-13-2006 12:09 AM

Only other thing I found is the WHOIS shows them to be in Finland.

xclusive 12-13-2006 12:13 AM

Yeah i'd say it's a scam

jollyperv 12-13-2006 12:27 AM

Software rips - and marketing by spam using contact crap in Finland.

Domain and related domains created this and last month - bets on they are lining up for a hit using a few domains/faces. Sloppy and amateur biz front face despite a half-good website front - candidates for cuffs depending on jurisidiction/nature of offenses.

PS The software is below any pricing level a publisher would distribute - and complete with no license nor any support :pimp

fallenmuffin 12-13-2006 12:56 AM

Based on the template useage and the about.php page i'd say they are based in India...

woj 12-13-2006 12:59 AM

yea, looks like a scam...

chodadog 12-13-2006 01:05 AM

It's not a scam in the sense that they'll be fucking over customers or anything. Customers are going to get what they paid for, and what they're paying for is a pirated copy of the software. They're obviously scamming the software companies out of legitimate sales, though.

No scammers. And for Finland, The Fins are among the most honest people on the earth.
You will get what you pay for. But I really think there are Russians behind it.

Yes they most certainly ARE scammers. They're selling pirated software, isn't that a scam?

Didn't know if it was pirated or not. So they sell cracked versions or give BS serial #s I guess? I actually found this site when I did a search for the latest Cubase software and it came up as a paid Google advertiser.

Totally possible fm. Tho also a fair bet he is far closer to home than we may think - or, at least the instigator/motivator is. Poss in Warwick NY area.

The spam is very low so far - hardly enough to warrant any volume short time hit pre-Christmas. Could be just a small-time ripper and no card fraud - time will tell.

Sure, it's illegal - especially in the publishers eyes :winkwink:

Tho they are not claiming it's "legal" and offer no licenses or support. This stuff is available on any warez/torrent site - the difference is they are asking money for it - which poss leads on to card fraud which may be of more concern to folks than software rips.

reynold 12-13-2006 01:30 AM

Be careful, dude. I just don't feel like trusting those guys.

Yes Mark - it's pirated or ripped software. Some of the sale pricing levels are below that which a distributor would purchase for legitimate copies with licenses - even for "electronic delivery".

Here's another couple of domains/mirrors:
http://www.oemofoem.com
http://www.hohlomator.com
http://www.worldsoftwaredirect.com
http://www.mamaoem.org (non operational)

Whois info can be amusing on some of them :winkwink:

BlueWire 12-13-2006 02:12 AM

Mark,

It is possible to get those software titles legit for those prices or below; HOWEVER, the bulk rates for this start at purchases of 100 licenses on Adobe products and 200 licenses on Macromedia products (Yes, i know...same company but they have still kept the same licensing rules).

It is possible to get Photoshop for $100/License and Dreamweaver + Flash for $150/Combo License

As for these guys...SCAMMERS

killerkay 12-13-2006 02:18 AM

K! Meet Alex Rodrigez, AKA Leo Kuvayev, 34 yr Russian and major spammer. He's spammed everything from watches to porn to, well - software.
Never checked, but chances are the downloads are coming from China as is his modus operandi.

And a nice pic of him sitting on his throne :winkwink:

http://spamkings.oreilly.com/throne.jpg

And hell, he's even qualified for own entry in wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leo_Kuvayev

SO... Back to your question Mark - Yes, it's kinda illegal :winkwink:

Webby 12-13-2006 02:38 AM

BTW... Leo Kuvayev is a US citizen from the Mass area and currently on the wanted list - but, least last is known, has skipped off back to Russia.
