First letter from Boot Camp

Ok, so I got a letter from my daughter, she's up in Great Lakes in Boot Camp in the Navy.
*******************************************
Daddy-Don't have much time to write-food is really good here-McDonalds hashbrowns even! There is another******* here, a chief I think, learning lots, love you
******

P.S.PT here is nothing. I think I'm going to get fat, thick snow, no snowmen:(

*******************************************
We have a rare last name, I've never met anyone outside of my family with it! Boot camp has really changed!! I lost 20 lbs.

That first phone call and first letter are the best :) My son LOVED the french toast at basic and ended up gaining 10 pounds ;)

Glad she's doing well :)

Vendzilla 12-14-2006 09:44 PM

the food I got when I went in sucked, we looked forward to cereal

Donny 12-14-2006 09:57 PM

2-3 day will likely change her mind about how easy PT is....

(as in two-three day, a particular day.... not 2 to 3 days)

The funny thing was sitting down with my son and his friend from basic for their first meal offbase. They ate it all in 5 minutes, lol. They were so used to being timed, it took them a few meals to learn to enjoy it again :)

She's been walking 5 to 10 miles a day getting ready for it and then running about a mile, then she would do as many sit ups and push up as she could, she lost 24 pounds getting ready for Bootcamp

Wiggles 12-14-2006 11:17 PM

they started that several years ago, you go on the big ships and I guess they have a mcDonalds and other fast food. Probably because it cuts down on getting home sick, we never got that, but on a sub, everything was different, the food on a sub was the best in the military

My daughter is third generation Navy, she's going in for adventure and schooling and I'm proud of the decision she made. The Navy doesn't go to places like Iraq, unless your UDT! I was in the military, you want to call me a Redneck or an idiot? Maybe you want to call a couple other Mods here the same thing? The only idiot here is the ASSHOLE tring to piss me off! So welcome to my short list!

That's the day you get "cycled" for hours. They come through and inspect your barracks and find any reason to punish you. Even if everything is in order they'll find some reason to punish you.

Our RCPO (the recruit "in charge" of the rest of us) had all his shit in order. But the guy next to him couldn't do an "about face" properly. So the Company Commanders made the RCPO hold himself in the push-up position until the other guy could do an about-face correctly. He had to hold himself in that position and TEACH the guy at the same time.

I had a sweater folded slightly incorrectly in my locker. I had to put it on and do jumping jacks for a couple hours. No stopping. To be honest, I loved it. At the end of the cycling I was covered in sweat so badly that it dripped from my clothes. It literally looked like I'd just gone into the showers with all my clothes on.

That day was very tough, but very cool too. I can't describe it.

2-3 day literally means "Week 2, day 3".
