How to get a surfer-forum more active?
 

I have a surfer-forum with about ~500 members, there's plenty of visits to every topic but not many of the surfers post a reply.

Any ideas on how to get a forum more active? :upsidedow

contests, prices for posting (points that they can buy stuff with , like access to special forums)

More booze?

Does anyone know if there's a plugin for phpBB that will force the visitor to post in a thread before they can access links?

give them something, also you should hire posters to make it look busy, maybe 1-2

Depending what sort of forum you have, if it is one for surfers to look at free porn i would not bother, i had one and they are the biggest waste of time and money.

make post that create controversy, piss people off.

offer "points" system and give them a free trial to sites or a pack of content to spank to or something

Make a few dozen nicknames for yourself and make the board seem more active. People are a lot more likely to REPLY to something than to actually start a new thread.

I dunno, but if it's a forum only site good luck making decent money per visitor, they usually suck.

I just logout and login again as a different person, or if I am home, have one member on my desktop and another on my laptop(s).

I would make the switch to vBulletin if I were you. I got the shit hacked out of my server using phpBB.

try a mailout to the 500 members, maybe mentioning a competiton or just wishing them a happy pornfilled xmas....with a link back to the hot threads...works for me when my forum slows down.
